A group of cybercriminals allegedly responsible for the ransomware attack that shut the largest fuel pipeline in the United States said on Monday it only wants to make money, not disrupt society, as Washington scrambled to help restore the network.
...
The FBI on Monday pinned the blame on the cyber group DarkSide. A statement in the group’s name said “our goal is to make money, and not creating problems for society.” It's statement did not mention Colonial Pipeline by name.

Other articles have said that Darkside sells the software that they sell it to other criminals.
So has Darkside deployed the software this time?
Has some other party purchased and deployed the software?
Has the FBI acquired the software (through purchase or confiscation of a criminal’s machine)?
Some media outlets are saying it is a Robin Hood group who extort money from companies to give it to “charity”. Whatever the money is used for is immaterial and Darkside says they do this “to make money”.
So some of the stories the FBI are circulating are conflicting.
And The White House says they only learned of it today. So the FBI didn’t brief the President of the United States about this??

Is there some reason they can’t replace the computer system?

Because people put EVERYTHING on the internet these days even coffee makers.

More cluelessness from the incompetent Biden Administration ... don't know if the country can survive 4 years of these idiots

My thoughts run along those lines as well.
Have they even used the “T” word for this yet?

I know hindsight will always be 2020, but, it seems strange to put everything on the internet. I’m sure computerized operations make things run more smoothly in many businesses. But maybe certain business operations should not be online. Just a thought for the future.

I agree.
And I don’t like all of the “records” have been put online.
So that now people have their homes stolen etc out from under them as well as countless other examples of identity theft.
I can understand the public records aspect of someone presenting an ID and going into the court house to look at the evaluation prices of properties in a neighborhood etc but putting it all on the internet where the whole world can grab it is just dumb.

Sounds like a "Democrat" Group to me, maybe the FBI assumed the White House already knew.

The first webcam on the internet was to track the status of a coffee pot in the computer science department at Cambridge.

The Federal Bureau of Intentional Lying (FBI-L) has claimed the Colonial Pipeline Network was compromised by a hack from Darkside Ransomware:
“The FBI confirms that the Darkside ransomware is responsible for the compromise of the Colonial Pipeline networks. We continue to work with the company and our government partners on the investigation.” (LINK)
When the state police tell us something prudence dictates we evaluate their motive against previous state police statements and make an independent decision. That’s the basis of not being a victim to professional lying. That said, which is more likely:
A) A random cyber-hack from a dubious eastern-European source, has compromised the refined fuel capacity in the United States?
~ OR…
B) The FBI, a political division -and state police- acting on behalf the U.S. intelligence community, are making this claim in order to provide cover for the Biden administration’s purposeful policies that are skyrocketing the price of fuel?
I’m thinking, well, option B?…

Remember when the computerized signals and track switching system went down in the main terminal of Taggart Transcontinental Railroad?
And Dagny Taggart sent out signalmen with lanterns and switch operators to switch the tracks manually, like in the old days, while she and Eddie Willers gave orders to them via runners, radios and telephones? And she got the trains running again, and headed to the right places?
I guess Colonial Pipeline, like just about every other big business these days doesn’t have any Dagny Taggerts or even an Eddie Willers working for them.
All their engineers know about anymore are bits and bytes not pumps and valves.

YOU are an expert in power transmission? Or generation?
Or, are you just playing a ‘Dunning-Kruger’ and throwing something out there?

Because, Dunning-Kruger, you’re making the same stupid assumption everyone else is, that the PIPELINE HARDWARE was attacked, and instead, it is the FRONT OFFICE ‘computers’ that are responsible for dispatching the quantities ordered/scheduled AND the associated billing that were attacked ...
