A group of cybercriminals allegedly responsible for the ransomware attack that shut the largest fuel pipeline in the United States said on Monday it only wants to make money, not disrupt society, as Washington scrambled to help restore the network.

...

The FBI on Monday pinned the blame on the cyber group DarkSide. A statement in the group’s name said “our goal is to make money, and not creating problems for society.” It's statement did not mention Colonial Pipeline by name.

Maybe the FBI should spend more time questioning the January 6th Trump supporters, ... that'll help.

Don’t forget they need to go through all the Giuliani stuff to erase any evidence he had on the Bidens. FBI very busy these days.

Maybe Strzuk and Paige can get on this..

I’m sure Wray would welcome them back.

“Hackers say seeking cash as top US fuel pipeline down for 4th day”

When caught, I”ll bet 20 years at hard labor, not the pool shooting, weight lifting or internet surfing of today’s prisons, but hard labor might cure someone’s desire to try this.

That would be a conflict of interest since the FBI works for the CCP. The Hackers also work for the CCP.

Put a $1,000,000 bounty on the hackers, heck, make it $25, 000,000, once the ransomware attack is reverse and even consider dead or alive since they might not be in US.

There should be death squads seeking them.
In fact, there should be death squads seeking hacker groups after every major hack.

What might do more, is to treat this as an act of war against the US.

And send a Hellfire missile through their windows, wherever in the world they may be.

Yep, one would think the FBI would be effective at cyber security and fraud as it relates to interstate commerce and national security, but, apparently not.

When the Soviet Union fell, suddenly the KGB and other spy organizations were no longer being paid. They immediately became criminal gangs. The cyber unit started working from Moscow as a self-funded operation. Then, one day, all their activity stopped. About two weeks later, it started up again, this time with superior hardware and capabilities. They were tracked down to a new skyscraper right next to the Chinese intelligence agency in Beijing. You can bet that not only is this attack from a foreign country, it is probably bankrolled by the CCP and is part of the graft and corruption of the Chinese government.

I am certain the NSA could track this down. But a conscious decision was made that each company had to defend itself without government help. Thus, we are all open to exploration, as we are on our own.

Maybe my tin hat is wrapped too tightly, but I have a feeling that ‘russian hackers seeking ransom’ is a cover excuse for something else.

Can I ask a stupid question?

Why are the operations of this pipeline subject to a cyber attack? The pipeline was constructed long before the internet existed. Why are the operations apparently somehow on the internet?

I’m not a high tech guy so maybe there is good reason for the operations of the pipeline to be on the internet. Then that also begs questions of internet security.
