“Maybe the FBI should spend more time questioning the January 6th Trump supporters, ... that’ll help.”

I heard they are still investigating a big case down in Talladega, something to do with NASCAR.

The Colonial tank farm had one of their tanks catch on fire a few years ago. But due to their new “floating lids” the fire was somewhat contained. This happened way before the natural gas facility was built.

Oh, I almost forgot. There’s now a Wally world less than a quarter-mile from both facilities. Who knows how much damage a determined militant muznut could do in that area...

Are you series (serious)? I suggest start reading Krebbs on Security website, to get an idea of how ‘computer crime’ is conducted today, and how businesses get ‘stung’ WHEN they have professionals in charge of their security ... this is to get you started. Krebbs has articles going back years, too.

I came up using mainframes tied to minis that were tied to the MFs via IBM software products like SNA (System Network Architecture), but I’m hardly the expert ... to go much deeper would require a lot of history and arcane terms (and time) ...

re: “As to how they did it pre-1990’s/Internet I don’t know.”

Dial-up telephone lines. Even the early Motorola cell sites used dial-up telco telephone lines (with modems each end) for remote access for telemetry (not phone calls, but for monitoring, changing cellsite performance.)

T1’s to channel banks were used for the lines to/from a cellsite for handling the ‘traffic’.

Well, PG&E blew up San Bruno, CA with Natural Gas, so I guess something COULD go wrong.
