The treatment of Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., by her fellow House Republican leaders and colleagues "simply for having a contrary opinion" on former President Donald Trump is appalling, and late President Ronald Reagan would never have approved, presidential historian Craig Shirley wrote in a new opinion piece.
"Cheney's only crime of course is her belief that the GOP needs to wash its hands of Donald Trump," Shirley, a biographer for late President Ronald Reagan, wrote for Townhall. "Otherwise, she's a tried and true conservative. And our movement is big enough to accommodate personal opinions.

BS!
The select GOP participated in Treason and Sabotage for four years!
‘
” And our movement is big enough to accommodate personal opinions.”
Sure. But not in. leadership positions.
Using her own argument lets say we replace the name Trump with Reagan :
"Cheney's only crime of course is her belief that the GOP needs to wash its hands off Ronald Reagan," Shirley, a biographer for late President Ronald Reagan, wrote for Townhall. "Otherwise, she's a tried and true conservative.
Would she be ok with that ? Is it ok to want to rid the party of its most popular leader (who's a proven and hugely successful conservative), provided the person wanting so is a "tried and true conservative" ?
So Reagan would have said, “The all Republicans who impeached me under corrupt, false pretenses?”
I don’t think so.
Well, regarding the way a LOT of stuff has been going down the last 60 years I’d say a LOT of our founders have been wearing themselves out rolling in their graves.
Shirley is one of the good ones, so I don’t discount his opinion...just disagree.
He has studied and written a ton about Reagan, knew him well. May have even worked for him in some capacity, iirc.
Back in RR’s day, politics operated with some small degree of comity, as opposed to now when there is none, nada, zero.
Nor is Cheney being tossed from Congress, (Wyomans will take care of that), just from leadership who know they can’t succeed without some 74M voters who love DjT.
His is one man’s opinion, but we’ll never really know.
And then as I tried to write -- let your own minds turn to that task. You’re going to write for people a hundred years from now who know all about us. We know nothing about them. We don’t know what kind of a world they’ll be living in. And suddenly I thought to myself, "If I write of the problems, they’ll be the domestic problems of which the President spoke here tonight," the challenges confronting us: the erosion of freedom that has taken place under Democrat rule in this country; the invasion of private rights; the controls and restrictions on the vitality of the great free economy that we enjoy. These are our challenges that we must meet.
Ronald Reagan, GOP Convention, August 19, 1976
Reagan would hate Liz Cheney.
Reagan could never have made it to the office during Trump’s term....”never criticize another republican” ...ponder that one!
His back would have been mostly knife steel.
We have plenty of room in our party for Liz, and her views. But, the LEADERSHIP should represent the majority view of the party.
She should be replaced, ASAP.
Of course they do, because President Reagan can't speak for himself. Liberal historians and the liberal press love putting words in peoples' mouths whether they're dead or alive.
I meant to say, “Keep all Republicans who impeached me under corrupt, false pretenses?”
Notice that it says “fellow Republican”. Since when is a RINO a “fellow” Republican except to a Democrat?
I don’t think so....
Child please, when Reagan was POTUS China did not have favored nation status. Cheney’s husband works for a lawfirm that represents communist china!
Reagan called it “the 11th Commandment”. Liz basically wiped her backside with it.
That might be true, however Reagan did not see the treachery of the last 30 years by the Bush League Republicans.
You’re amazing!
What she sowed. . .that will she also reap.
This sentiment was in play when Bush jr was in office and it got us the longest war, the nazi sounding dept of Homeland Security, an astronomical european bank bailout on the backs of US taxpayers, and the constant threat of amnesty for illegals.
Much different times today than in Reagan’s time.
