Concerns are mounting from bipartisan US lawmakers and Afghan women's rights activists that the hard-won gains for women and civil society in Afghanistan could be lost if the United States makes a precipitous withdrawal from the country.
President Joe Biden has suggested it will be difficult to meet the May 1 deadline for US troops to leave the country as dictated in the deal the Trump administration signed with the Taliban. However, there are fears that if the US withdraws troops before the conditions on the ground are right -- regardless of the date on the calendar -- there will be a sharp and possibly catastrophic backslide.

Are we going to make US women register for the draft just in case we need to send a lot of them over to Afghanistan? Why not? Don’t we think women should be treated equally?
Unless you’re willing to end Islam in Afghanistan, any progress there on women’s rights in a Western sense is a chimera, a complete fiction. Since no one is willing to do that, people discussing it in a serious way only reveal themselves as fools.
It’s a forever war because the RATs dare not name the enemy or even try to defeat it: Islam.

I am one of the most adamant proponents of equal opportunity for box sexes. Yet there is nothing any outside country can do to change a religion-based culture of another country. Only a 100% Genghis-Kahn sweep cleanout of 3-4 generations of every male in the country would work. So move away, move on.
