Another favorite artist of mine is Fred Waring, who led a great jazz band before going into the world of choral music where he became well-known. I actually saw him perform in 1982. Two years later, my parents went to a choral music workshop that he led at Penn State University. The day after it ended, he passed away.

According to Webster’s, an “artist” is: a person who creates art (such as painting, sculpture, music, or writing) using conscious skill and creative imagination. So this counts! Unless of course, you were born before 1828 which would be before Webster’s dictionary. If so, my apologies. You’re truly old and would think the word “artist” was just someone who paints. Just my humble thoughts!
