About one-third of COVID-19 survivors have a neurological or psychiatric condition six months later, a large-sample study conducted by British researchers has found. Researchers examined health records of more than 236,000 patients. They found that about 34% of COVID-19 survivors were diagnosed with a neurological or psychiatric condition and were more likely to develop brain conditions than those suffering from other respiratory tract infections, according to the study published Tuesday in The Lancet Psychiatry journal...Anxiety was the most common condition, diagnosed in 17% of patients. Fourteen percent of patients experienced mood disorders, 7% had substance misuse disorders and 5% experienced insomnia. About 13% had their first diagnosis of a mental health issue.

What scare BS.

Deep in the article

“ admitted to intensive care with severe COVID-19”

Not the 99% who had effectively the flu.

For what it’s worth, a young woman I work with had the Wuhan during Christmas. She was very sick, but not hospitalized. She has recovered her sense of smell, but strong odors now smell ‘different’.

Anecdotal and a sample size of 1, so take it as you will, but Wuhan apparently can/does mess with you in all kinds of unexpected ways.

I can believe this.

I know of 3 people who had covid really bad 8-10 months ago-all 3 hospitalized but recovered.

All 3 said they are not back to normal and have all kinds of lingering after effects.

My wife a covid style of illness 2 years ago (doctors now think she had an earlier form of covid) and has yet to get back her lung function-non smoker and fit.

locked down like prisoners?

That is frightening. Hopefully it’s not something biological, but rather emotional or psychological which can be treated much more easily. I think it is fairly normal for people who experienced trauma to get anxiety or moody. And given all the fear in the media a positive Covid diagnosis probably would induce emotional trauma. And let’s face it, I bet a lot of people even covid-negative people are feeling a bit moody, depressed, anxious etc after 13 months of lock downs. Few people have found good outlets for these anxieties and “they” didn’t make it easy to find a good outlet, gyms and pools are closed, beaches were closed, you couldn’t even talk a walk in the park or ride your bike without a mask etc.

Wife and I walk in our area, I refuse to wear a mask just to walk around a residential area. She wears one but sometimes slips it off. If we encounter other people we wave and say hi but walk around each other - distant. Saw some teenage kids set up a ping pong table in the street down the block. They were having good clean honest fun and no masks. Not my concern. We said hi, how’s the game, who’s winning etc.

As for substance abuse, well, I think that is up across the board this last year, in general, independent from any Covid diagnoses. Reports of children suffering emotionally, contemplating suicide (some even trying to and doing it) are heartbreaking and IMO, just my opinion, this is the fault of the media and the reckless policies we’ve allowed to be inflicted upon us. I am glad to see some states throw the doors wide open now as they are a real-life experiment for the other states which are opening very slowly. I am very disappointed to see various unions like teachers unions and dockworkers and others using this pandemic for bargaining leverage. “Unity” my butt.

I did see an article about people who suffered severe infections, they had horrible lung scarring - said to be worse in many cases than the lungs of a long time cigarette smoker. Hopefully these things will pass and heal in time but the lung scarring I dunno. Hopefully that is much more rare than emotional responses.

I would hazard to guess anyone admitted to intensive care for a serious disease of any type will most likely have at least PTSD just from the experience.
