That is frightening. Hopefully it’s not something biological, but rather emotional or psychological which can be treated much more easily. I think it is fairly normal for people who experienced trauma to get anxiety or moody. And given all the fear in the media a positive Covid diagnosis probably would induce emotional trauma. And let’s face it, I bet a lot of people even covid-negative people are feeling a bit moody, depressed, anxious etc after 13 months of lock downs. Few people have found good outlets for these anxieties and “they” didn’t make it easy to find a good outlet, gyms and pools are closed, beaches were closed, you couldn’t even talk a walk in the park or ride your bike without a mask etc.

Wife and I walk in our area, I refuse to wear a mask just to walk around a residential area. She wears one but sometimes slips it off. If we encounter other people we wave and say hi but walk around each other - distant. Saw some teenage kids set up a ping pong table in the street down the block. They were having good clean honest fun and no masks. Not my concern. We said hi, how’s the game, who’s winning etc.

As for substance abuse, well, I think that is up across the board this last year, in general, independent from any Covid diagnoses. Reports of children suffering emotionally, contemplating suicide (some even trying to and doing it) are heartbreaking and IMO, just my opinion, this is the fault of the media and the reckless policies we’ve allowed to be inflicted upon us. I am glad to see some states throw the doors wide open now as they are a real-life experiment for the other states which are opening very slowly. I am very disappointed to see various unions like teachers unions and dockworkers and others using this pandemic for bargaining leverage. “Unity” my butt.

I did see an article about people who suffered severe infections, they had horrible lung scarring - said to be worse in many cases than the lungs of a long time cigarette smoker. Hopefully these things will pass and heal in time but the lung scarring I dunno. Hopefully that is much more rare than emotional responses.

I haven’t worn masks outdoors, either, except to put one on just before entering a business with a mask policy.
