How do they diagnose ‘Alzheimer’s’, anyway?

I remember talking with a doctor back in the early 1990s about the fact that every case of senile dementia was being called ‘Alzheimer’s’. He was uncomfortable with it, too.

Oh how sad! Always loved watching him. Always enthusiastic to the enth degree and full of mischief. I do not understand where this dementia comes from or what causes it. You look at him and it’s obvious his mind was extremely active; highly intelligent. I don’t get it.

We’re trying high dose niacinamide and gingko/vinpocetine with a family member with dementia. As I understand it, 2500-3000 mg/day niacin offers significant improvement for the condition.

I’ve had two relatives with dementia and one with Alzheimers. Alzheimers is worse.

I think I went to high school in Japan with Hanna’s pastor at New Hope in Dublin; the Rev. is very down right now, as are many in that church, as much as I can tell.

Ugh. My mother-in-law has early onset Alzheimer’s, it’s difficult. She is younger than him.

From all appearances, Jack Hanna has had a life full of service and joy, no doubt with some bad times and heartache thrown in. It’s sad for any life to end with dementia, but I salute him for having a blast for 74 (or 76 ...), and sharing his positive energy with animals and people too. Godspeed, Jack Hanna.
