When one of my daughters was turning 18 she asked about registering. I looked it up and I believe I found something that said it was illegal for a female to register. She said that wasn’t right because women can serve too (she wanted to).

On June 29, 1963, (My 18th. B/day) I told my recruiter that I wanted to enlist, he scheduled my physical and induction day for July 8, 1963. I asked him if I should sign up for the draft and he said, “don’t bother, you’re going active duty for 4 years”.
4 years later on July 7, 1967, I was honorably discharged. Before the end of July, I received my draft notice.
I went to the county draft board and gave them an ear full. For 4 years they did not know I was active duty and didn’t bother me with this B.S.? The minute I am discharged they draft me and threaten me with prison if I don’t show up?
They could not or would not explain but they did rescind the draft notice.
