Ancient DNA Reveals Arctic Was Once Lush and Green, Could Be Again

Imagine not a white, but a green Arctic, with woody shrubs as far north as the Canadian coast of the Arctic Ocean. This is what the northernmost region of North America looked like about 125,000 years ago, during the last interglacial period, finds new research from CU Boulder.

Re: Continental Drift

The Canadian Arctic coastline only moved about 4 miles in the last 125,000 years.

All of that oil that we’re not supposed to touch was once temperate forest.

Re: nearest land to the North Pole is 500 miles away

Correct.

The plant DNA was found on the Canadian Arctic coastline.

Yep, they never ever address the big yellow elephant in the room much less earth’s relative position to that big yellow elephant.

That would leave them with too many inconvenient truths and unanswered questions.

And the Sahara was once ocean. The climate changes, with no help from man, and will continue to change no matter how many countries eliminate the gasoline engine or how many software company CEO’s squirt tons of calcium carbonate into the atmosphere.

First time we have Arctic plant DNA from the last interglacial, as far as I know.

Let's ask CoyoteMan.

Re: And the Sahara was once ocean.

Satellite photos also show there were at least two major rivers - besides the Nile - that flowed into the Mediterranean Sea within the last 25,000 years.

And OMG!!!!! life on earth SURVIVED and thrived.

What do the alarmist fail in most?

They fail to acknowledge one of the very keys to the abundance of LIFE on earth IS adaptation. Humans as well have used adaptation and managed to make home in every climate on the planet from the Sahara desert to the arctic circle.

LIFE writ large will go on AND thrive, and humans have never been as capable of managing adaptation of their own modes of living as we are today.

When it comes to “climate change”, in FDR’s words, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

“The Canadian Arctic coastline only moved about 4 miles in the last 125,000 years.”

But there is a whole lot more to the temperature than just drift. The point is, the article doesn’t even allude to any other factors before saying Climate Change.

Goebbels said something like, keep the lie simple and hammer just one or two points until nothing else matters.

I think we are on the same side about this.

Namely...

125,000 years ago - before man had ANY impact on climate - it was warm enough for large plants to grow on the Arctic coastline.

We’ve known this for a long time. Fossilized tropical plants and critters way up north. It wasn’t always frozen.

Here’s an evolution question? Since it supposedly take millions and millions of years for animals to evolve to their environment, and wooly mammoths, saber tooth cats, cave lions, cave bears, and giant sloths and such would have had to survive multiple ice ages and global warming periods while evolving, why did they suddenly all go extinct at the end of the last ice age?
