Hi Everybody!
(((HUGS)))
I recently read his story. The first time he got shipped home, he was told he would never walk again. Going against doctors’ orders, he got himself not only to walk again, but also fit to return to combat. He would have none from the naysayers. This is what warriors are made of.
Bible in a Year:
You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.
Decades ago, Dr. Jerry Motto discovered the power of a “caring letter.” His research found that simply sending a letter expressing care to discharged patients who had previously attempted suicide reduced the rate of recurrence by half. Recently, health care providers have rediscovered this power when sending “caring” texts, postcards, and even social media memes as follow-up treatment for the severely depressed.
Twenty-one “books” in the Bible are actually letters—epistles—caringly written to first-century believers who struggled for a variety of reasons. Paul, James, and John wrote letters to explain the basics of faith and worship, and how to resolve conflict and build unity.
The apostle Peter, however, specifically wrote to believers who were being persecuted by the Roman emperor, Nero. Peter reminded them of their intrinsic value to God, describing them this way in 1 Peter 2:9, “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession.” This lifted their gaze to God’s great purpose for them in their world: “that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
Our great God Himself wrote a book filled with caring letters to us—inspired Scripture—that we might always have a record of the value He assigns us as His own. May we read His letters daily and share them with others who need the hope Jesus offers.
Reflect & Pray
How does reading the Epistles as caring letters help you receive God’s encouragement? How will you share the hope of God’s caring letters today?
Loving God, thank You for the caring letters in the Bible!
Just WOW! They don’t make many like this hero. All these whiners of today should be made to read his story, if they think they have it rough because they thought someone looked at them wrong or their local Mickey D’s was out of fries.
I have heard of this man.
Wow, what a man, what a great life he led!
Thank you for posting about Roy Benavidez heroism that day back in May 1968. My brother in law, also Hispanic, was also a LERP in Vietnam in the late sixties. He became good friends with Roy in Roy’s later years.
I think of a Biden and then I think of Roy Benavidez and I just want to throw up. Only about 60% of American Adults should even be able to say Roy’s name. The other 40%, non patriots all, don’t deserve him.
Tango Mike Mike a living legend.
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting MSG Benivedez in 1997 while completing the Engr Officer Advanced course at fort L Wood. He was a guest speaker to a bunch of engineer kids. He had a hard time getting around then.
He was a pleasant man and a willing conversationalist. He joked with me about my Infantry awards on an Engr Captains uniform- he said “must have been a different life” and when I readied to depart, he refused my properly owed salute but rather took my right hand, embraced me and said “Godspeed”.
Every time one of these hero’s departs, we are diminished. Thankfully, tearfully, we have many in the ranks, even today, growing into new hero’s.

Greetings to all at the Canteen!
To all our military men and women, past and present,
THANK YOU
for your service!
Oof! This one was a bit tough to read. It's amazing that Master Sergeant Benavidez survived such an ordeal. But he did, as did several others whose lives were saved by his heroic actions.
Brings tears to the eyes when you think about the sacrifices made by prior generations to preserve our freedoms & liberties only to completely lose all of it over the past 20 years...
George Patton wrote a poem around 1917 that very nicely predicted the cycle of “heroes” saving the day for freedom, followed by “cowards” losing all the freedom through abject cowardice...
We are now living in the endgame of cowardly generations surrendering all of our freedoms and not really caring...
In physical stature he was small. The man was a giant. He was a man’s man to be admired in the extreme. When it all goes to hell you want a man such as him fighting next to you.
Evening, Kathy! Hope it’s warmer there.
How's everyone doing this morning?
And Obama and Biden want to give us Becerra. Not a fair trade on earth or in heaven. Benavides is one of America’s greatest fighting men. The Obama/Biden creeps would never be allowed to shine his boots.
