Climate freaks force Miami Beach to remove over 1500 iconic Palm Trees…

“The removal of so many iconic, beautiful palm trees, including royal palms, will have a negative impact on our historic, cultural and economic brand,” Meiner wrote in an email. “Millions of tourists throughout the U.S. and the world annually visit Miami Beach and palm trees are an integral part of our brand. There are only a handful of tropical climates in the United States where palm trees can grow.”

Trees help to anchor soil and prevent erosion. They also help to filter pollutants out of the air, provide shade and habitat for numerous species. These so-called climate freaks are just plain ignorant and out of their libtard minds.

Yup. Hurricane Andrew also drove 2x4s through trees.

Most are date palm [trees]—native to the Mediterranean.

Yeah I lived in Ctrl FL for Andrew and took a trip down to Hallandale/N Miami right after Andrew and saw some things stuck into some other things. I was in the sign business and had to go look at a sign that needed replacing.

This is the native Palmetto tree, home of the palmetto bug aka 3-4" roach, that is when they don't decide to make your home their home. This is a large specimen.

That is sad beyond belief. NJ is a beautiful state, really. Lots of nature and trees; I once went to a survivalist class (Tom Brown Jr.) and was very impressed with your state.

And to have the urban areas be desecrated like that; it is truly outrageous.

They are idiots.

Anyone who has a houseplant knows that some small rocks at the bottom of the pot helps to divert excess water/moisture. They help those of us who aren’t great in the watering department. :)

Putting a layer of cement won’t work quite as well. ;)

Looks like as sabal palmetto. Used to go out and poke around in the saw palmetto. We’d go out and do eyeshines in the trees. Palmetto bugs would show up in those. A friend had one that lived in his ‘68 Camaro. We’d be driving down the road, and he’d say “There he is.” He was on top of the tape deck, and you could see his/her antennae in the glow from the tape deck lights.

Coconuts certainly “migrate”.

Palms are the perfect “tree” for hurricane-prone areas. The high winds don't usually affect them.

Hurricane Irma fatally removed the tops of two of my six palms in 2017. (One a 20-foot Foxtail).

One coconut palm was fatally flattened by large flying debris, another merely laid out flat—and is recovering with an interesting bend to the trunk. The two remaining palms, protected by structures, are thriving well.

That's too bad. Foxtails are beautiful. My coconut palms are very old. They've survived many storms (and spiral whitefly through injection at the base of the trees). We are waterfront and they take quite a beating. They look pretty battered after the storms but always come back beautifully. I have a couple of Sylvester Palms in the front of the house and they have done well, too.
