“The removal of so many iconic, beautiful palm trees, including royal palms, will have a negative impact on our historic, cultural and economic brand,” Meiner wrote in an email. “Millions of tourists throughout the U.S. and the world annually visit Miami Beach and palm trees are an integral part of our brand. There are only a handful of tropical climates in the United States where palm trees can grow.”

Want to put a stop to this crap? Simple, let them pay for it!
We’ve done a study and it will cost 1 million dollars to remove the palm trees. You guys get together and come up with a million dollars and then we’ll talk.

It's only a narrow E/W band of Florida's peninsula that these particular palms can exist. Protected from wintry blasts, they can grow as far north as Orlando. Their ample shade should justify protecting Planet Erf.

The State started cutting down Coconut Palm trees a few years ago in State Parks. Local protests stopped the practice.

Since the coconut "seeds" are spread by ocean tides, it's hard to justify the Coconut Palms' not spreading worldwide.

Y’know all the tall, high-maintenace Date Palms you see on Florida’s highways? They’re mature trees TRUCKED-IN from California!

Where’s DeSantis?

Missing a sarcasm tag here. He is the Governor, not the dictator!

This is Miami-Dade, one of the 3 hot-bed Democrat-dominated counties on Florida's SE Coast. Far too many New Yorkers come down for the warm but bring their LEFT politics with them (US Rep Debbie Wasserman-Schultz was born in Queens, NY and only came to FL for college!)

Lethal Bronzing is killing Florida's palm trees:

Lethal bronzing, which experts say likely originated in Mexico

Looks like it's an illegal invader from Mexico, but...

...They don't want to blame it on Mexico, so it's being blamed on "climate change."

Cruz had a ‘unique’ way of dealing with the killer freeze that is killing the palm trees in Texas.

The only thing the leftists are capable of is destruction. They spend their whole lives figuring out what to tear down or destroy next.

They want to replace the palms with shade trees that will take up more CO2 and storm water. I’m waiting for the next episode of “Oak vs. category 4 hurricane”. Or when the watermelons decide that 80 ft. maple is blocking solar panels.

From another article:

Miami Beach to cut back on famous palm trees over climate concerns

"Officials have embarked on a 30-year plan to reduce the percentage of palm trees in the city to only one quarter of its total canopy by 2050, according to the Miami Herald. Currently, Arecaceae palms account for more than 55% of the city’s population of 48,900 trees."

“The cutback is needed, the newspaper says, to reduce urban warming and improve air quality, and about 1,000 palm trees will be removed in the coming weeks as part of already scheduled construction projects.”

“According to the urban forestry master plan that forms part of Miami Beach's Rising Above initiative to combat the climate crisis, about 17 percent of the city's 15.2 sq-mile footprint has a tree canopy.”

“The plan details the environmental benefits of planting shade trees, including species such as oak, ash, elm and sycamore, in place of palms. For example, a 16in trunk diameter live oak tree would remove 510lb of carbon dioxide, 20oz of harmful ozone, and intercept 725 gallons of rainfall per year.”

“By contrast, a native sabal palmetto palm of the same dimensions would absorb only 2.7lb of carbon dioxide, 1.7oz of ozone and 81 gallons of rainfall.”

In other words they are idiots...
