Palms are the perfect “tree” for hurricane-prone areas. The high winds don't usually affect them.

Hurricane Irma fatally removed the tops of two of my six palms in 2017. (One a 20-foot Foxtail).

One coconut palm was fatally flattened by large flying debris, another merely laid out flat—and is recovering with an interesting bend to the trunk. The two remaining palms, protected by structures, are thriving well.
