After appearing for decades in science fiction, then moving into an actual theory, a new patent for an updated warp drive was published last year to no fanfare. Like many other false starts in cutting-edge research, the patent may represent the next step in the expanding theory, or it could mean the practical, real-world design of a functioning warp drive is on the horizon.
BACKGROUND: HOW TO BEND SPACE-TIME WITH A WARP DRIVE
After first publishing his groundbreaking 1994 warp drive concept in the journal Classical and Quantum Gravity, Mexican Mathematician and Physicist Miguel Alcubierre received significant positive and negative feedback. Most applauded his solution, which did indeed appear to create a working theory on how a warp drive might allow faster than light travel without violating the laws of physics. In contrast, others zeroed in on the incredible amount of energy needed to propel his theoretical spacecraft.

Publishing a patent means nothing.
After reading many patents I’ve come to believe that 1. all patents should have a physical implementation before the patent is issued so there are no speculative or fantasy patents and 2. the prior art needs to be researched better rather than issuing the patent and letting courts figure out the prior art. Too many patents are issued for old stuff with a new coat of paint on it.
Yes. Theoretically things are supposed to be reduced to practice, but the bar may not be high.
And I was pointing out published is not issued or even close to issued.
I’m still waiting for my flying car powered by Mr. Fusion.
Just guessing what is revealed here is an APPLICATION, not an issued patent.

Yep, United States Patent Application 20200130870

I call that last pic, “Driving at night in the snow”.
one time when I worked at Boeing they came down with a “Memo”
any ideas we had were to be submitted to Legal for possible patents. As a Boeing engineer all your job related or inspired thoughts are owned by the company.
Apparently you can patent a dream.
Guess that explains the Democrat party.
We really do need the damned warp drive!
We were able to establish America due advances in sailing ship technology and used that to escape the statist oppression of Europe and establish a new country with the values we cherish so much today, ( freedom of speech, freedom to bear arms, freedom of religion without interference from state, etc ) .
I think tech like this is being suppressed because the elite do not want to lose their stranglehold over the populace like the European elite did...
Ping to warp drive patent.
in before Kevmo
I was wondering about that. I thought that a patent required a working prototype
LOL!
