Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) admitted Thursday that he had planned on spending longer than he did in Cancún, in a spur-of-the-moment trip his wife tried to recruit friends and neighbors to join that was motivated by Texas’ frigid temperatures, according to texts obtained by the New York Times, following widespread outrage over a vacation Cruz initially claimed was driven by his daughters and their friends.
The senator’s wife, Heidi Cruz, tried to recruit friends for the trip on Wednesday and noted their house was “FREEZING,” the Times reported Thursday, citing texts obtained from a group chat.
She proposed staying at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancún, according to the Times.

Karma biting back at Ted.
Remember his recent and past comments about Donald Trump.
Damn you Cruz for building all those useless wind farms. /s
Just come on over to Arizona. It does still get cold at night but by Noon it is warm enough to wear a T-Shirt.
Unforced error by Cruz. Also, leadership takes leadership. And Trump is off the national stage, attention will turn to other Republicans.
I don’t see Cruz coming back from this (I think he’d be a horrible GOP nom for president before this, so this is probably a blessing anyway).
Well the media is sure working hard to put all this onto Cruz as opposed to what they normally do, blame the “president”
The optics of this whole thing are certainly bad for Ted Cruz, but all the regularly scheduled hypocrisy and piling on from the leftist media is pretty annoying too. Ted Cruz isn’t governor of Texas. He’s not city manager of Lubbock. He’s not on the city council in Sugar Land. His job is to represent Texas in the U.S. Senate, and I’m not sure how being on the ground in the Lone Star state is in any way essential to doing his job.
Optics, FRiend, optics...
“ The office of Sheila Jackson Lee has tweeted that the Congresswoman, along with nonprofit organization NACC Disaster Service, will be handing out bottle water and groceries to Houston communities affected by the winter storm, starting at 1 p.m. Thursday at Emancipation Park.”
“The optics of this whole thing are certainly bad for Ted Cruz,”
So much BS, I would have done the same thing if I could arrange it in time. I suffered through the blackouts only wishing I was in a warm place. Good for you Ted Cruz, Eff the optics, this is still a free country. You can go where you want when you want and screw you sissies that say different!
Yeah, he sure won’t have to be a senator after this anymore. You realize he might be the biggest laughing stock in TX and the world right now?
He *admitted* it was a mistake. I’m not sure how you are able to just let this slide, but he knows he screwed up royally.
Looking at this play out....I could see Ted having rented a RV over in New Mexico, and just spent a week on road in NV and AZ. But this Cancun deal? Total screw-up. I’d agree with you...he’s mostly finished. 2024? He’ll move on...probably getting some state judge deal in Texas.
I would be curious though....from the 30-odd House and Senate folks from Texas....where exactly are they right now, and how many also went off to Cancun?
So funny, even Lyn’ Ted’s neighbors can’t stand them and outed them for this stupidity.
I’m running out on his fellow Texans to Mexico is somehow representing them. Wow, your expectations are really low for Lyn’ Ted.
One paper, NY Post I think even had
the headline FLYIN’ TED
On the other hand. It’s cold and in Texas they’re not really equipped to sustain that kind of temperature drop. So I can relate. Meanwhile, the media wants to bring donuts and would like to know how much his dogs enjoy living in the whitehouse while Biden is allowing the chin’s to eat our lunch.
Cruz did nothing wrong. He got his family out of the cold. And - what is more to the point - he didn’t fill Texas with useless wind farms.
Any ‘conservative’ going along with this obvious bullsh*t distraction is a cuckold waste of space.
If he did nothing wrong why did he call it a mistake and apologize? You should know what that means. Beto 2024.
What the media refuses to do is remind us all that if the older power plants had not been forced to close then this nightmare would never have happened.
Texas just found out what happens when you depend on wind and solar power then it turns midnight and the wind stops blowing.
Stupid is as stupid does....
The New Rulez dictate that I not care about this, since the Left constantly and blatantly does the same thing.
I don’t think anyone will remember this non-story by election time.
Are they keeping tabs on all the senators or only the ones they’re scared of?
