There was also an episode of the Twilight Zone called “The Midnight Sun”, which starts with the premise that the earth’s orbit was perturbed and the planet was basically falling into the sun; at the end of the show, there’s a twist that this is a woman’s fever dream and that the earth is instead falling out of the solar system with everyone doomed to an icy death.

According to the author of this video, this is the culprit: A red dwarf called GLIESE 710.
Red dwarf star, also called M dwarf or M-type star, the most numerous type of star in the universe and the smallest type of hydrogen-burning star. Red dwarf stars have masses from about 0.08 to 0.6 times that of the Sun.

Yep. At the end of her dream the paint on her art was melting. One of my favorite episodes, with a classic TZ twist at the end.

IIRC LiveScience.com talked about it. They never said it was reality. It was just a discussion.

Yes.
When you get some time, watch the video. Its only 10 minutes long.

Surely you had Science in 8th grade.

Seriously, what’s your problem? If you’re some kind of expert, then put something out there. Don’t denigrate people contributing to the discussion.

This reminds me of the premise of the TV series ‘Space 1999’ where the Moon goes rogue.

I’m going to skip the 10 minute video and say we’ll burn everything that can burn to stay warm and end up eating each other until there are none of us left to eat.

“The rotation of the Earth has absolutely nothing to do with the generation of heat in the Earth by the decay of natural radionuclides.”
He’s probably thinking of tidal heating, not heating from radioactive decay.

I’d prefer robots overthrowing us. At least they might appreciate our culture and preserve some of it in their museums.

Please don’t give the Democrats the idea ...Yep, in a month they'd have a hundred 'scientists' signing a letter saying Americans must give up 'everything' so save Motha Earf... and that China and rest of the world is exempt...

Gliese is supposed to pass about 1/4 light year away. At 0.6 solar masses it won’t affect the planets but will disturb the oort cloud.

Odds of GLIESE 710 coming close enough to do all this damage:
Pretty low. But possible. Probably better odds than me dying from covid.

I didn’t bother clicking. My brain declines.
Besides, with all the hot air from libs we’d be just fine (that, and the CO2).

Gonna take a lot of hot air from the deranged far left mob to get out of this one. Sadly (or not), they will be dead.
They will not be in a position to spew out any more nonsense.
