PALM BEACH, Florida – U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, a medical doctor by profession, made an unnerving prediction about masks on Wednesday, saying mandates to wear facial coverings are never going away as long as the political left is in charge.
"They will never relent. These people are never gonna let you not wear a mask," the Kentucky Republican told Todd Herman, the fill-in host on Rush Limbaugh's national broadcast.
"I promise you, you will never get out from the mask because they're saying that even after all are vaccinated, we don't know, you still might catch it a little bit, you still might transmit it, even after everybody's vaccinated. So don't listen to these people.
"The mask mandates have not worked, none of the mandates have worked," Paul added, referring to government strategies during the coronavirus pandemic.
"There's study after study after study that show that when you put in place these mandates, guess what, the incidents of the infection kept rising. Even [President] Biden admitted this the other day. The trajectory of the virus has been unaffected by anything we've done so far. Our only hope of changing the trajectory is a vaccine, but it should be voluntary."
An incredulous Herman noted, "The masks ain't going away. ... The technocrats don't want to give up control."
Paul also blasted the absurdity of the Congress' second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, who is now a private citizen.

He did NOT favor impeachment...not even in a litle way.
Trump was not guilty of saying anything to incite a riot. Sure they were pissed and had every right to be pissed.
What? A valid, legal protest has to be with people that are perfectly content with the way things are going??? That’s what a peaceful protest is about - unhappy people protesting what is happening.
One who engages in or leads a protest is not automatically guilty of inciting a riot if some of the people themselves get out of hand. The individuals who got out of hand need to be responsible for what they did, not Trump if he didn’t say any thing to incite such rioting.
This is B.S.
Like I said, the patriots were pissed, and when you get an angry crowd of 100,000 patriots, it is a time bomb. Very difficult to make sure all 100,000 will be peaceful.
If my memory serves me correctly, I listened to PDJT’ speech and remember the words “fight” in there somewhere.
His inexperience as a career politician was the reason he did not go out of his way to admonish the crowd with any unruly behavior. He assumed all would be peaceful. Some were not.
The idea is to not let them control what and when you should do it. Make your own decisions.
I recognized at the very beginning of this phony baloney pandemic that masks were worthless to stop a virus. I knew this from my experience buying medical masks for hospitals when I was in the Air Force. Medical folks, including surgeons, wear masks to stop germs and bacteria, not viruses.
I haven't worn a mask since this whole thing started. When Rand Paul says we must resist and stop wearing masks, he means now, not six months from now.
I believe enough people have bought into the government propaganda, that there will always be people who will continue the wear masks no matter what the government says.
A Fellowship of the Mask sect will remain in the culture for years to come.
OK, I was wrong about that.
What Rand DID do that was unconscionable IMO was when he said, “I cannot vote to overturn” the results of the election.
Evidence that Rand has been in the Beltway Bubble too long.
Orly if YOU let them be. This is an easy fix. DON"T WEAR ONE. When someone asks you to wear one, politely say "No, thank you." If they become insistent, forcefully tell then "NO". If they get physical, protect yourself accordingly.
I honestly don't know when American's lost their backbone.
I agree, it will be endless lockdowns and facemasks until the left is thrown out of office in 2 years.
I’ve been a Rand fan for a while now, and he was my first choice in the pack of the Republican primaries.
He keeps getting better and better — and he’s one of the few who steps up and makes a stand, a quality I liked in Donald Trump.
I don’t wear one. But most people will...as they do now.
His meaning was that he had absolutely no power to overturn the election. Geeeeez...
(SIGH) I know. All we can do is continue to defy the mask NAZIs and encourage people to nut up and say "NO!"
No, he absolutely should have voted to overturn the election.
Do the right thing, not what’s expedient.
You still don’t get it. There was no vote taken to overturn the election.
A legitimate session of electors was taking place and interrupted by the “insurrection of the Capitol building”. What happened then? An unarmed woman was murdered, almost like clockwork.

You don’t get it.
There absolutely should have been vote a to overturn the election and Rand should have lead the effort. Instead he acquiesced to the idea that there wasn’t enough evidence or some such B.S. that the election was an absolute fraud which it was.
Dang, why are you supporting the wrong side on this? The 2020 election was an absolute fraud and should have been - or should be - overturned. The guy in there now is a fraud, saboteur, and enemy insurgent.
I use the bank drive thru for banking transactions and I run my own small antique business. I have a business web site and a space in an antique mall. The antique mall is in a large building and the booths are spaced out. About half the dealers wear masks.
Last Sept., I went to the local ER with chest pain. They did not make me wear a mask because I couldn’t catch my breath. I was transferred by ambulance to the Cleveland Clinic where my cardiologists are. I did not have to wear a mask inside the CC because I was a heart patient and had my own room. They did a cath and luckily for me, my heart was OK. My following appointment with my cardiologist was a Zoom appointment.
I live in a rural area and people around here don’t care if you wear a mask. My husband and I dine out regularly and the only people wearing masks in the restaurants are the servers, and most of them have their masks pulled down under their noses.
I’ve been to Lowe’s, Home Depot, Meijer and other box stores with no problems.
The only places that insisted I wear a mask to enter were GFS and Menards...I left the store.
