President Joe Biden’s United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Thursday stopped executive orders from his predecessor designed to significantly lower prescription drug prices for Americans, including insulin and epinephrine.
The new administration will apparently re-evaluate the executive action from President Donald Trump toward the end of March. It remains unclear if it will be reinstated.
“The HHS Thursday froze the former Trump administration’s December drug policy that requires community health centers to pass on all their insulin and epinephrine discount savings to patients,” Bloomberg Law reported Thursday. “Centers that don’t pass on the savings wouldn’t qualify for federal grants.”

I am a pharmacist thankfully retired. . The cost of production of a 10cc vial of insulin is just a few dollars. Why does it may cost hundreds of dollars?
The answer is very simple. It is total corruption and influence of the Drug Manufacturers. They own Congress.
Circa 1987 as a retail pharmacist I sold Insulin for about 10-15 dollars a vial. Oddly we did not want to make much profit as those that were on insulin often had many other medical problems and we wanted their business. If we had their insulin business we also had there other business. We did the same with birth control pills. I sold them at cost. It I did this I had them for all their other medicines for their kids and husband. That was just business and I hated it.
I lasted one year doing this and then took a salary deduction to become a clinical pharmacist in a hospital and then was able to use my skills to help patients. This gave me 30 years of joy until I retired.
I worked mostly grave yard shift and no other pharmacist was there. Prior I did a coumadin clinic and became bored.
Graveyard shift is great. It is only you and all errors or right decisions are you. It was a good way to work.
At night after the attending physicians go home the phone starts to ring with questions from the residents. It goes like this, first they describe the illness and ask about drug therapy. Most often we could tell them the answer instantly. If we could not we would then ask details about the disease state and then perhaps determine a rational drug therapy.
Sometimes we could not.
More than once we decided on radical therapy that saved a life that would have surely died. They were surely dead if not.
Community health centers are operate by Dims. The nice salaries and benefits go to Dims. The staff can campaign for Dims.
So of course their is loot to divvy up.
So what if it cost poor people a little more? Who else they going to vote for?

My wife is a hospital pharmacist, too. She knows the drugs inside and out. It really amazes me how much knowledge she has about pharmacology.
Buyer’s remorse? I would love to say, “I told you so!” to them time and again.
