Put GOP before Trump: Mitch McConnell plans speech today pleading with Republicans to save their party and NOT get behind President

Donald Trump's extraordinary crusade to overturn the presidential election will come to a head on Wednesday as Congress meets to certify Joe Biden's Electoral College victory at a joint session led by Vice President Mike Pence.

The typically routine proceeding will be anything but, as a group of 13 rogue Republican senators led by Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley plan to file objections when the alphabetical vote roll-call reaches the battleground state of Arizona.

The longshot effort is all but certain to fail, defeated by bipartisan majorities in Congress prepared to accept Biden's 306 to 232 electoral victory over Trump.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is expected to make a last-ditch effort to dissuade members of his party from following through with their doomed plot when he delivers a speech early in the day.

Sources familiar with McConnell's plans told Axios his speech will center around his fear that the objections will tear his party apart by forcing Republicans to choose between upholding democracy and alienating a hugely influential GOP figure in Trump.

Meanwhile Trump has placed his hopes on Pence, furiously claiming that the vice president could single-handedly overturn the election results during Wednesday's proceedings - and denying a report that Pence had told him that wasn't possible.

I can’t imagine what dirt they must have on our elected officials to make them behave the way they are....

Dumbass; 70 million Trump votes were cancelled out by the fraud in 6 blue cities. Any repub who doesn't fight back("upholding democracy") against that is killing their own party and the country.

I believe at this point a case for treason could be made against Mitch.

GA might be lost

When there is open election fraud in the public eye, with video proof, and they get away with it then GA is just the beginning. The nation will be lost. And hacks like Mitch McConnell couldn't care less.

I'm sorry but there are some on this site who support RINO hacks as some sort of 'better than the other guys' alternative. They are NOT a real alternative to the democrats. They signed off on this steal 100%; In fact they were crucial in covering it up and ramming it through. The steal could not have worked without the active support of the GOP. That's a fact. The mask is off. They are NOT different.

If you put Party over the Primacy of the Constitution, you are in violation of your Oath of Office and are by definition a Domestic Enemy.

Period.

The problem is that no one is interested in making these cases.

Trump and the USA are one in the same. Do you really believe that the Democrat and Republican parties have the best interests of this country in mind? Anyone that has been paying attention for the past 12 years knows there is no real difference between the two parties at this point since the GOP is fine with rubber-stamping the Democrat agenda. The GOP can't be bothered to go toe-to-toe with the Democrats even though it is now required of them.

Screw you Mitch. You gave up being our party leader when you betrayed us and when you gave up Georgia.

I might dispute the 12 years, perhaps much longer, but everything else is 100% accurate.

It has long been a banana republic, when “early voting” started up. OR started the BR-type mail-it-in voting earlier, also.

Early voting is the equivalent of dead people voting, because many of them WILL be dead when real Election Day occurs. Dead people should not be voting.

Hence, banana republic.

Mitch, you’re losing your majority in the Senate. I hope you’re damn proud of yourself for the bang-up job you’ve done for the Swamp.

Well, I think we agree on that. I am still hoping this trend may be reversed, but if this stands, I doubt it will.

All these open and intentional flaws and weaknesses will be expanded and exploited, and we will be done as a Republic.

I hold out hope, however faint.

I hope.

If trump is not sworn in Jan 20 I suspect I may not be willing to be a Republican any more. The RINOs infesting the party leadership will be happy to see the likes of me out of the party, I imagine.

“...one AND the same.”

No, I don’t do kings.

Do I believe about Dems and Reps? No, not necessarily. I believe Dems HATE America and Reps are always trying to be nice and conciliatory and get along. Which is great but one still has to stand for principles.

If anyone can get a party going that takes the place of Reps but is more steel-spined (not nasty, just tough), great. But it has to be serious. Because many of us are not going to risk losing to Dems and will continue to vote Rep. Do an even better job than Ross Perot and that may change.

So McConnell combined a vote commission into the $2000 per person stimulus bill due to the Coronavirus because he supposedly cared so much about the integrity of our elections.

Now though he is against these objections.

Meanwhile his wife is an advisor to Wuhan from where a bio weapons lab produced the virus.

Don’t worry though McConnell will make sure Americans get $600 instead of $2,000 just before the Georgia runoff elections, guaranteeing Republicans lose the Senate unless the Steal can be thwarted.

Now this guy presents himself as the Savior of the Republican Party.

All fellow Kentuckian Henry Clay did was gymnastics on a table knocking all the silverware down.
