Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) fired a warning shot Monday against withdrawing more U.S. troops from Afghanistan, even as the Pentagon is preparing an order to do so.
McConnell, speaking from the Senate floor, warned that only a "small minority" in Congress would support a rapid drawdown and warned that a rapid withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan "would hurt our allies and delight, delight, the people who wish us harm."
"The consequences of a premature American exit would likely be even worse than President Obama's withdrawal from Iraq back in 2011. ... It would be reminiscent of the humiliating American departure from Saigon in 1975. We'd be abandoning our partners in Afghanistan," McConnell said from the Senate floor.

They want Trump gone as bad as the democrats...
Endless wars and more money for the corrupt DC establishment
GOP is useless at the federal level

1775-1814 is what...
Tell him sure Mitch and then after January reelection inauguration tell him to go f*ck himself
[The GOP Majority Leader compares POTUS to Obama and the Fall of Saigon? ]
We can withdraw from every other military base around the world. We cannot withdraw from Afghanistan until the Taliban is extinct. Ideally, we would slaughter them and every one of their civilian supporters. Since we can’t, we have this tiny presence there to show people that anyone who attacks us may be fighting their own countrymen backed by a small contingent of US troops for the next 100 years. Now that’s a deterrent.
Again, the cheapest and most effective deterrent would be physical extermination. Since we can’t, because of current-day restrictions, this is the next best thing. Alexander did conquest on the cheap when he wiped out the men in Persepolis, the Persian capital, and sold the women and children into slavery.

After that, Greek nobles ruled Persia for as long as these United States have been a republic.

[I am curious if any one can state the mission in Afghanistan.]
* The total % of annual output we’ve spent fighting in the Middle East and Central Asia so far is 5%, vs WWII’s 200%. And US casualties combined are maybe a few dozen a year, vs 200 a day during WWII.
Yes because 20 years is not enough.
Get all of our military out of all hellholes.
Let them defend our border.
Let them defend our real allies in Eastern Europe from invasion by homicidal savages while dating beautiful Eastern European women.
Replacing one Islamic regime with another Islamic regime never results in the happy peaceful place that globalists swear it will.
Remember all the talk about "abandoning our Kurdish allies" in Syrian Kurdistan?
Mitch McConnell called it a “grave strategic mistake” that will “leave the American people and homeland less safe, embolden our enemies, and weaken important alliances.”
Trump was right, and the Kurds took care of their own business without us just fine.
Get back to approving Judges Mitch, and leave the real decisions to the President.
So what is this, KAAW? Keep America At War? Sure it is.
My grandson served in Afghanistan EIGHT YEARS AGO. He’s been out of the Marine Corps 5 years now. Had enough of a muslim CIC.
We have only the second good President we’ve had in my entire lifetime, maybe for only a short time more. Let him bring our people HOME.
It would be worse than the fall of Saigon. The North Vietnamese never launched an attack on US soil. The Taliban backed a terrorist group that did. It killed 3,000 people in NYC and DC.
There have been many Deep State terrorist attacks launched from AMERICAN soil during this now 4 year old coup against President Trump. Attacks aided and abetted by McConnell and the GOP Senate. Trump’s Presidency has been stolen and the now 130 million votes for him have been disenfranchised. How brave of McConnell to defend Afghanistan, though.
The Military Industrial Complex is going to Military Industrial Complex.
Trump is a lame duck* and owes nothing to nobody and can do whatever the hell he wants the next 60 days. If President Biden wants to send tens of thousands of troops to War, that will be his problem and can justify another 17 years in that sand pit from hell.
*per court challenge of course

It ticks me off that Cocaine Mitch deliberately undermined Trump by not passing a stimulus package. But that’s the way it goes. McConnell has his priorities, and Trump has his. If Trump had done DACA on day one and made the wall his condition for the tax cuts, we wouldn’t be talking about a presidential transition today. Trump has stepped on his own peter numerous times.
A second term could still happen. We have a somewhat solid GOP majority in the Supreme Court. Whether they have the guts to go against the media, the plutocratic elites, out-of-control Democratic local officials ... Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
McConnell is absolutely not defending the US in Afghanistan. If he was doing that he would not be fully supporting the ongoing Deep State coup for four years now. It’s that simple.
"...we need to stick around until the job is done. It’s a fairly low cost endeavor* compared to WWII".
..."until the job is done"
My question was/is what exactly is the job(mission)?
And just personal curiosity, have you served in "combat"?

In fact, even if he doesn’t win this round, the bloody shirt will be a big motivator for 2022. I see that being for Biden what 2018 was for Trump - a real bloodbath for his party.
And if Trump wants it, I see him as a shoo-in for the 2024 GOP nomination. This vaccine thing is genuinely impressive. I see it carrying him to a second term in four years if the ongoing legal maneuvers fail to bear fruit. It’s not even unprecedented. One other president has done it. Whether he would want to is a separate question.
Ideally, we would slaughter them and every one of their civilian supporters.
We have no will to do that. And nothing less would do.
Since we can’t, we have this tiny presence there to show people that anyone who attacks us may be fighting their own countrymen backed by a small contingent of US troops for the next 100 years. Now that’s a deterrent.
There is no deterrent from an outnumbered group hunkered down in defensive positions waiting to be slaughtered. Ask the Brits how well that worked out when they were there previously.
The current "rules of engagement" are a proven route to disastrous failure. It's past time for us to leave.

Trump and the US are not synonymous. McConnell has his priorities.
Trump is POTUS. Every moment he spends taking coupist knives out of his back is a moment he is not defending this country. McConnell simply has no interest in defending this country. If he did he never would have green lighted this coup that has heavily damaged our national security. The coup only continues with bipartisan support and you can thank China Mitch and the GOP Congress for that.
