[The GOP Majority Leader compares POTUS to Obama and the Fall of Saigon? ]
We can withdraw from every other military base around the world. We cannot withdraw from Afghanistan until the Taliban is extinct. Ideally, we would slaughter them and every one of their civilian supporters. Since we can’t, we have this tiny presence there to show people that anyone who attacks us may be fighting their own countrymen backed by a small contingent of US troops for the next 100 years. Now that’s a deterrent.
Again, the cheapest and most effective deterrent would be physical extermination. Since we can’t, because of current-day restrictions, this is the next best thing. Alexander did conquest on the cheap when he wiped out the men in Persepolis, the Persian capital, and sold the women and children into slavery.

After that, Greek nobles ruled Persia for as long as these United States have been a republic.

It would be worse than the fall of Saigon. The North Vietnamese never launched an attack on US soil. The Taliban backed a terrorist group that did. It killed 3,000 people in NYC and DC.
There have been many Deep State terrorist attacks launched from AMERICAN soil during this now 4 year old coup against President Trump. Attacks aided and abetted by McConnell and the GOP Senate. Trump’s Presidency has been stolen and the now 130 million votes for him have been disenfranchised. How brave of McConnell to defend Afghanistan, though.
Ideally, we would slaughter them and every one of their civilian supporters.
We have no will to do that. And nothing less would do.
Since we can’t, we have this tiny presence there to show people that anyone who attacks us may be fighting their own countrymen backed by a small contingent of US troops for the next 100 years. Now that’s a deterrent.
There is no deterrent from an outnumbered group hunkered down in defensive positions waiting to be slaughtered. Ask the Brits how well that worked out when they were there previously.
The current "rules of engagement" are a proven route to disastrous failure. It's past time for us to leave.
