No rest for the weary. Lake Charles LA radar remains crippled from Hurricane Laura. Few operational buoys available.

Been an active season, and Louisiana has paid the price this year.

Thanks for the ping!.......again! 🤪

Painful storm season for the northern GOM residents. Storm prep is time consuming and tiring. Little to no opportunity for clean up and repairs before the next storm rolls in.

I live in the northern part of the toe of Louisiana. We’ve been lucky, but the west has been devastated thus year. I feel so sorry for them. I can’t remember a year that we have gone through the alphabet and into the roman alphabet. Hopefully the next 4 years will be kind to the northern gulf states. 8>)

Didn't realize you are a LA resident!
2005 (infamous for Katrina, Rita, Wilma) was the first year the Greek alphabet was needed to name storms. Incidentally, Zeta was the last named tropical storm in 2005, assigned Zeta on December 30.

I guess after Rita I stopped paying attention. I had been working at New Orleans City hall for 18 days when Katrina hit. Was out of work for a month without any power. Got an electric bill for double what I normally paid for a month. Called them and asked why I am getting an electric bill that is double my normal bill and I hadn't had any electricity for a month. I just went ahead and paid it. Fortunately we didn't suffer any real damage, but we lost some big trees. Picking up the debris was a real chore. But we still had our trials and tribulations as most stores were closed and the supply chain was badly disrupted.
When Rita hit I was still at home from Katrina, but that one missed us and went further west.
Then in 2008 the City made us go to Baton Rouge when hurricane Gustav was threatening New Orleans. At the last minute it turned westward and came in at Baton Rouge. I had a new car that I had just purchased. The pressure caused my back window to explode and debris caused my front windshield to become totally cracked. When it came time for me to go home I could barely see out the front windshield to drive. Of course lots of rain had come in through the back window.
So you can see I've had my fun living here. 8>)

Does this ever end? We have had constant rain for weeks now can't remember a sun shiny day.congrats on managing a truly mammoth hurricane season.Few can do what you have done.
We are just lucky that the Keys won't get much from this one at all.
I guess you see what I mean about the data buoys now. Fla. Bay is loaded with them.No one goes anywhere near the majority of them. Meanwhile, the important buoys either don't exist or have been broken for months in some cases over a year.
After the election when Trump wins I'm gonna suggest we privatize the buoy system a little bit at a time starting in South Fla.NOAA has proved it's incompetence one more time.

While we've had loads of rain this season, we are very fortunate that we have been spared the full impact of 2020 Gulf storms.
In addition to Lake Charles radar still out of service since late August, the few buoys that were working early this season have been knocked out by storm after storm. I'm still a fan of universities adopting buoy maintenance. Students will enjoy the adventure and improving performance with the latest tech.
