But will it destroy the toxins created by the bacteria?

Sunlight will kill bacteria. Fill water bottle and leave in sun. I would not try that if it were me. My experience is sunlight can accelerate growth. That's why late summer is always bad for algae.
Halazone or boiling works. They also have some cool new pump filters that work great.

No mention of giardia? I've seen warning signs about drinking the park's surface water.

Maybe she just wanted to be rescued by some buff forest emergency squad guy and was disappointed it took two weeks to find her.

This reminds me of the Colo. couple who’s child was supposed to have been swept away in a plastic blow-up house.
Only to find it was a hoax.

When I worked as a land surveyor in Arctic wilderness, I was advised to always carry a deck of playing cards.
"Why?", I asked.
"To ensure rescue if you're ever lost" "
How's a deck of cards going to help.?"
"If you're hopelessly lost, start playing Solitaire. It won't be long before someone's looking over your shoulder telling you to move the black Jack onto the red queen."

Perhaps that thumb-sized amethyst she was wearing in the tie-dye photo protected her?
