Greeley nursing home residents protest pandemic lockdown: “I’d rather die of COVID than loneliness”
Complete Colorado ^ | 10/8/2020 | Sherrie Peif

Waving signs that read such things as “I’d rather die of COVID than loneliness,” and “We are prisoners in our home,” residents of one nursing facility staged their own anti-lockdown protest along one of the busiest streets in Greeley, ...

“Freedom, freedom, freedom,” one lady chanted while waving a sign that read “we want our families back.”

... Gov. Jared Polis’ mandates that do not allow nursing home residents to see their loved ones,....

... protesting the lockdown as they enter their eighth month of no hugs, no smiles, no kisses from their loved ones.

... “The isolation is what kills these people,” she said. “It’s just incredibly sad that they can’t live out the last part of their lives with their family surrounding them.”

... “They are members of the greatest generation,” James said. “The very generation who fought to overturn tyranny and protect our freedoms. Now these members of that generation have had their freedom taken away via a tyrannous act by unelected bureaucrats. The governor and the CDPHE should immediately work with these facilities to give them a way by which they may hug their loved ones.”

My sister just lost her husband, he was in a Veterans Home in Big Spring TX, last time she got to see him before he died was March. He passed away 2 weeks ago. The facility he was in (Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Veterans Home) was in lock down with no visitors allowed.

“>> “I’d rather die of COVID than loneliness””

My mother, now dead, used to say pneumonia, which COVID basically is, was the old person’s friend.

The daughter of the lady down the hall has already been in discussions with her lawyers over a law suit resulting from freedom of movement

I am so terribly sorry for your loss...and for the heartbreaking months leading up to this. I so appreciate that you posted this as this is exactly how we feel.

My sister-in-law’s mother is 91 and currently in a MA nursing home. She was fine and feisty going into this quarantine in March. After months of being locked in her room, denied basic human interaction, her mind is now wandering back to better times. I admire her so much. She’s a fine Christian woman who is now coping in her own way. She’s living in a time when she was free, her husband was alive, and life was “normal”. It is, of course, heartbreaking for my sister-in-law and my brother to watch/listen, but think, “well, at least she doesn’t know she’s in quarantine any more”.

She is a casualty of COVID our powers that be refuse to talk about, along with those now struggling with depression, suicides, lost businesses, etc.

Not to be disrespectful, but in some situations it is not possible. There are a number of reasons that is not possible, and what you said just laid alot of guilt on a whole lot of people who already feel guilty.

I do think many older people would rather die than to be in isolation. Where I live attorneys on TV are advertising the isolation fact and letting people know to contact them for help. Maybe if a few family members started threatening to sue, things would change

I was reading this allowed to my husband- we are both in tears. So sorry for your loss. After a 5 minute rant, he has a great idea: reach out to PDJT and get this story covered by him at a Rose Garden event. America needs to hear these stories-especially with our vets! There must be a lot of stories like this and CNMSBC will have to cover it if its at the WH.

This is totally vile and cruel treatment of the elderly. My mom is in the same position in an assisted living home and being treated the same. She’s gone into a deep depression. She has family close by she hasn’t seen since February. The Rat Bastards NEED to hang.

I feel sorry for your family. You father is an American Hero.

Well, I just posted this, from the Trib, before I saw your post.

When I was rehabbing my broken leg at Fairacres, I became friends with George, a Navy pilot in WWII, and retired airline pilot.

He was the most stubborn mofo in the place. I think that's why I liked him.

Horace Greeley told people to defy the mundane and chance the move west despite the possible horrors that might await them.

The people of Colorado have forgotten their roots.

Greeley himself didn’t go west. Nathan Meeker did, and he met a horrible fate.

God bless them and hear their cries. May we all wake up to their plight and true needs. Godspeed justice and prayers answered.❤🙏❤ Heartbreaking and treasonous what the bureaucrats are doing to all of America. Especially and our most vulnerable.
