Yahoo News/YouGov poll: Trump loses support among 3 key demographics after debate, COVID-19 diagnosis

One of the main reasons Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election is voters who disapproved of both Trump and his rival, Hillary Clinton, broke for Trump by about 18 percentage points.

"In the abstract, it’s something of a statistical quirk," the Washington Post's Philip Bump recently explained. "In practice, though, it might have given Trump the White House."

In contrast, Trump's party lost control of the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections due mainly to large numbers of voters who cast ballots for Trump just two years earlier switched sides and voted for Democrats — particularly college-educated white women.

Now, in a troubling sign for Trump's 2020 chances, all three groups — voters who disapprove of both candidates; voters who cast ballots for different parties in 2016 and 2018; and college-educated white women — are moving in Joe Biden's direction.

By partnering with YouGov to track the views of 13 key demographic groups (suburban voters, Latino voters, white seniors) across nine important metrics (vote intention, Trump approval, direction of the country), Yahoo News has identified a significant shift away from Trump over the last week — a period in which the president delivered a poorly received debate performance and was hospitalized with COVID-19.

I look at it this way: Virtually every poll in 2016 had Hillary way ahead of Trump. Still, he beat her. I am simply unable to imagine that Biden can excite the base to turn out to vote for him at the same level of support Hillary got. On top of all that, there are just too many stories of President Trump getting significant increases of support from blacks and Latinos.

He hasn’t lost any supporters that he didn’t already have. What I mean is, his real supporters are people who support not the man, but his actions.

A real patriot understands that man is flawed, and that is why a man shouldn’t be a ruler. A leader should lead, not rule. A leader is flawed but his message and actions should lead us in the right direction.

If you don’t understand this, trump may never be your cup of tea.

Another excellent post. Biden is neither a leader nor would he be a ruler. He is/would be a placeholder for a Harris/Sanders/Soros denominated socialist administration.

I’m a college educated white woman. I voted for Trump in 2016 and I’m voting for him again in 2020. I can tell you from vast experience that “college educated” does not equate to “smart”.

Your response is how I win debates against liberals.

During the Obama administration, the two of them did nothing.

If I was a democrat, I would hate those two. Trump has passed more healthcare and gun laws than those two did.

.. something I’m not happy about but the facts are the facts. Obama and Biden did NOTHING for the progressive cause.

It was failure after failure from the first Olympics bid to the last day in the office.

just watch Inside the Numbers with Barnes and Baris they are very accurate and will show you why these polls are not credible

the only way Trump moves in this direction is if he doesn’t correct his tweet, ordering his administration not to negotiate with Pelosi on stimulus, (granted what he said was correct about Nancy) but by saying he will not negotiate it plays right into the Dems/Lefty hands and he will lose these groups-he has sent out late night tweets trying to walk that back a bit

I think a video with clips of Biden being rude to regular people would be good. The lying dog-faced pony soldier, do you wanna do push ups, the union guy asking about guns, you ain’t black. I know there are more. But white women of a certain age use Facebook a lot. A viral video might sway some.
