Schools in Logan, Oh., were forced into a lockdown Thursday due to protests, confirmed the Marietta Times. These protests were spurred by an incident that occurred Wednesday, in which a woman watching a middle school football game got tasered by a school resource officer for not wearing a mask. These protests were in support of the officers actions.
The woman, Alecia Kitts, was watching her sons game in the bleachers with her mother, who was also not wearing a mask, says The Marietta Times. The two were approached by the schools assistant principal, Adam Twiss, to comply with the mandatory face coverings policy despite being outside and socially distanced. The officer was also called upon to intervene.
In the video recorded by fellow game-watchers, Kitts can be seen resisting the school resource officers attempt to handcuff her. In the midst of the struggle, the resource officer tasers her in the back, causing her to fall to the ground and finally be subdued.
The school resource officer, identified as Officer Chris Smith, had warned Kitts that should she not put on her face mask, she would be cited for trespassing and escorted from the game. After the tasing incident came to pass, Kitts was formally charged with criminal trespassing as well as other charges that are currently pending.
It is important to note, the female was not arrested for failing to wear a mask, she was asked to leave the premises for continually violating school policy, noted Logan Police Department on Facebook. Once she refused to leave the premises, she was advised she was under arrest for criminal trespassing, she resisted the arrest, which led to use of force.
The protesters outside the Logan Police Department agree. Showing their support of Officer Smiths actions, they touting signs proclaiming, Back the blue, Stand with Smitty, and Smitty, you make the world a better place. The school lockdown stems from suspected threats.
I notice that too. Would he have tazed a black gal?
I support cops, but not stupid cops. This one was stupid.
I read where it took him nearly 2 minutes to cuff her.
This “resource officer” needs to go back to pushing a broom in some minimum wage job.
What a loser.
Upside down world.
Where are the protests in support of this mom???
Imagine if a white male cop had tased a black mom, at her son's fooseball game.
Hope this mom sues the heck out of the district and the officer.
If some savage had gone there and started yelling and screaming and assaulting people, but carried a BLM poster, he would have been treated gently and the school would have apologized for being there.
LOL. It was all about the mask! Was she asked to leave for any other reason?
It is important to note, the female was not arrested for failing to wear a mask, she was asked to leave the premises for continually violating school policy,
And what school policy did she violate? Mask wearing?
Criminal trespass when she payed to get in, and was allowed in by the gatekeeper? Where in the heck am I living again? Sure doesn’t seem like free America.
Perhaps the mask policy is stupid, but making policy decisions isn't the cop's job. The school is entitled to set rules for who goes on its property, and to eject from its property people who are not following those rules. She brought it on herself by not following the cops' lawful order.
So they had no reason to request her to leave a public school therefore the "criminal trespassing" charge is bogus and since the charge is bogus the use of force was illegal.
And that is the rest of the story the supporters of the badged brutes would prefer not to know.
The cop was likely understandably reluctant to start whaling on her, or injuring her, in a struggle on metal bleachers. Probably figured the taser was the least likely to cause her actual harm.
Think about taking on a 67 guy who is high.
Its not so easy.
Why not? School grounds are not normally open to the public, and non-students usually have to be invited to be there. And on just about every ticket I've ever seen, whomever is inviting the person reserves the right to enforce its rules, and to eject anyone who doesn't comply.
Actually it is the cop's job to know when something is illegal or allowed. They send them to school and they are continually taking classes to know what is legal and what is not. This was not. And he knew it or should have.
The school is entitled to set rules for who goes on its property, and to eject from its property people who are not following those rules.
And no. They have very tight restrictions on the rules they may set and who they may eject. She did not fall under their restrictions so was not doing anything she could be ejected for.
She brought it on herself by not following the cops' lawful order.
It was not lawful. That is the problem.
So I see, she wasnt tazed because she wasnt wearing a mask, she was tazed because she didnt leave, because she wasnt wearing a mask...
What bull$hit.. they are 10-20 feet away from anyone else and outside for gods sake.. it is beyond insane that anyone is being forced to wear a mask at all let alone during those circumstances.
I dont blame the corrections officer, I blame the school district and the governor for the insanely stupid policy.
In other words she did not have to wear the training burqua because it could cause her physical or emotional damage or (under title six) if she had a religious objection to it.
It is the same if she had brought her seeing eye dog and they tried to arrest her. Or if she was wearing a burqua and they told her to uncover her face.
They can make rules but the rules always have exceptions built in for people who can not comply. Especially in public facilities.
Both the police officer and the school know that. They just wanted to throw their massive weight around. So they will be on the receiving end of a massive lawsuit.
The cop was likely understandably reluctant to start whaling on her, or injuring her, in a struggle on metal bleachers. Probably figured the taser was the least likely to cause her actual harm.

And actually, he figured wrong. Other reports indicate the tazer went through her body, through the metal bleachers, and then shocked a little boy sitting next to her.
“Adam Twiss handled the situation poorly.”
Maybe the president needs to hold a beer summit.
No it isn't unless you are trying to parse the reality of what happened to put some spin on it. There are lots of truthful statements that could describe the situation. The woman getting arrested for not wearing a mask is certainly true.
Do you really think she would have been arrested if she was wearing a mask?
At this point the school and local police are trying to generate a story which supports their actions, as dumb as they were. Apparently the police never thought that admitting the woman told the officer that she had asthma put her actions squarely within the scope of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The arrest was not more logical than it would be for the same cop to decide to arrest a Secret Service officer who happened to be carrying his firearm on school grounds while he escorted a political candidate.
The mom that was arrested was from another town that was visiting to play football. So the locals have apparently think their rivalry with other towns should allow their police to act recklessly towards people with asthma from other towns.
That's how much division we have in our society today.
“Schools in Logan, Oh., were forced into a lockdown Thursday due to protests,”
Such bullshit. People were not threating students in any way. They were mostly parents. But the dramatic overreaction is their thing I guess.
