Recent media reports claim that a covert Kenyan paramilitary team is responsible for the unconstitutional killing of terror suspects in nighttime raids. The reports are based on interviews with US and Kenyan diplomatic and intelligence officials.
The team was trained, armed and supported by US and British intelligence officers.
It has been reported that since 2004, a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) programme has been operational in Kenya without public scrutiny. For its part, the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) has played a key role in identifying, tracking and fixing the location of targets.
This has drawn renewed attention to the reality of widespread foreign security operations in Africa.
Several African governments are hosting foreign military bases. This is despite the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Councils ongoing concerns about the proliferation of foreign military bases on the continent. The AU is also concerned about its inability to monitor the movement of weapons to and from these military bases. Regardless, a host of bilateral agreements between AU member states and foreign powers underlie the spread of foreign military forces across the continent.

No country has ever benefited from going into Africa.
Let Africa Sink

Are you sure about that?
China has been mining Cobalt and other precious minerals from the Congo for a couple of years. Minerals used in smartphones, laptops and e-batteries.
They are not very nice or humane to the little children forced to do the actual digging of some minerals, but they don’t care about that. Not much competition from other prosperous countries either.
I’d like to know whom’s constitution they are talking about.
Do these terror suspects have any rights under this constitution and are US, UK, India, China scrambling to set up military bases in Africa doing it to protect these terror suspects or because they want to help kill some of them and are they going to set up their military bases in the country of the fore mentioned constitution.
China has a lot of their people working in Africa, mainly in mining but also oil and agriculture. Instead of hiring locals, the send in their own people to work. They live in enclaves, like the Europeans used to do.
One result is that locals resent them.
And in some countries, local insurgents, mainly ISIS related but sometimes just tribal bullies, have attacked them.
So China has their military there to protect them.
Watch the Chinese film Wolf Warrior 2...which ends with the assurance that China will protect their citizens no matter where they live.
(Its a good film by the way in a Rambo type genre).
The article disses the UK for training Kenyan special forces.
The writer seems unaware that Kenya for many years has had a very good, professional military.
And the writer laments they hit terrorist without reading them their rights? Terrorists who have attacked Kenyan civilians?
That is absolutely still one of the funniest essays I ever read and Ive read it about 10 times now
This is coming from a guy thats almost falling off cliffs gotten eaten by the ocean or large animals hundreds of times !
And thats on the North American continent and Pacific Islands only!!
Here’s a great read which is a log of a Belgian couple who RVed through the Congo. I read this several years ago, and I think I’ve posted it here before. Once I started reading I couldn’t stop.
When I was stationed in Africa, natives and others kept telling me that the problem in Africa is Africans. The best thing for Africa was European colonization. And, what the Chinese doing is enslaving and robbing.
The only thing that can change Africa to peace and prosperity is Christianity.
So what if the Chinese have military bases in Africa, with the one in Djibouti being the first of many? The US has one base in Djibouti as well, and has Guam in the Indian Ocean!
So what if the Chinese continue to sell their wares to Africa, which is seen as a key future and growth market for China? The US has more than enough Americans to sell to.
So what if the Chinese are moving towards increased Great Power Conflict, with the resources in Africa being a key aim for them as part of the stratagems they are currently implementing (with the greatest example of soft power ever across the continent). American doesnt need to counter that at all!! After all, theres nothing but beetle-dung in Africa as another FReeper so sagely said sometime back.
Yes, I know Trumps Administration has implemented some of the most significant (and sizeable) pushes to have closer ties with Africa, and he has done more than even Obama and President Bush combined. Sure, that is because of one reason - China - but what does President Trump know! Or for that matter, countries like Britain and France that are rapidly trying to do the same. Just idiots the bunch of them.
Yes, I know there is claim that Africa has the worlds fastest growing middle class, but they also have Ebola and Marasmus. Lets leave all of that to the Chinese.
And as for development - there are only mud huts in Africa. Not a single stone building for thousands of miles. For example, have a look at this picture of Nairobi in Kenya! Disgusting how they only have huts and pot-bellies children herding skinny goats!!!!
Nairobis dilapidated mud hut villages
Let China have the whole damn continent!!!! At least we have Guam.
Great response. A helpful answer. Let China have those ongoing headaches of working with aka being responsible for Africa.
But how am I ever going to get my money from Nigeria if we just leave it alone?
Lot’s of countries have benefited from going into Africa
1. the Phoenicians
2. the Greeks
3. the Romans
4. the Arabs (into North Africa)
5. Omanis (into east Africa)
6. Portuguese all along the coast
7. The English (South africa, rhodesia etc. lots of money)
8. The French (west Africa)
9. Belgians (lots of money from the Congo)
under the Kenyan constitution - of killing extra-judicial.
exactly - it might be unconstitutional, but no one is going to shed a tear for those terrorists
Bkmk
I just glanced at the map and said Aw hell no!
What Leopold and the Belgians did in the Congo was criminal at the level of Stalin, Hitler and Mao.
I read Sir Arthur Conan Doyles The Crime of the Congo in the last few years. It was eye opening, to say the least. Free at Project Gutenberg.

Just reading the preface gives you a good overview.
The Chinese are bringing in their own workers to do this, but unlike western do gooders, whose aim is not to disturb their culture but to keep them living their green lifestyle, aka in poverty, the Chinese are promoting a modern lifestyle... cellphones used to buy and sell, and used as banks, and now for classes in schools. The corrupt government might not keep the electricity on, but China will sell you a generator.
And unlike American kids, African kids study hard, for they see education as a way out of poverty.
The press shows a very biased picture of Africa and Asia. There are war zones, but such areas are not universal.
The corruption means the smartest and most ambitious folk leave for jobs overseas.
As for the slums...this is a world wide problem, as village folk move into cities. We white “ethnics” were in similar slums until recently, and I won't even go into the elite's hatred, of Hillbillies.
