Trump's Supreme Court frontrunners: A mother of seven who adopted two children from Haiti and belongs to a Christian sect that inspired The Handmaid's Tale - and a Cuban American whose father was stopped from becoming a lawyer by Castro

President Donald Trump's announced Saturday night that the Supreme Court nominee he plans to announce next week to fill the vacancy left by Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be a woman, spotlighting two conservative women as his potential pick.

During a campaign rally in North Carolina, Trump declared 'I will be putting forth a nominee this week, it will be a woman', later adding his pick would be a 'very talented, very brilliant woman' because 'I like women more than I like men'.

As he left the White House for the rally, the president identified two women as front runners: Amy Coney Barrett, 48, of the Chicago-based 7th Circuit and Barbara Lagoa, 52, of the Atlanta-based 11th Circuit as possible nominees.

An overall good description of PDJT'S top two likely candidates for the RBG slot. If I were a Senator I'd instantly vote for either. However, not being a Senator, I'll simply give my pick, which is Barbara Lagoa.

My problems with Barrett are that she's a member of a somewhat dingy religious group that's definitely a bit beyond ordinary RC theology and that, with five kids of her own, including one with Down's Syndrome, which should be a full plate for any active female professional, she went out and adopted two Haitian kids. That tells me she has a very large wannabe social worker do gooder streak. Of all things in the world we don't need on SCOTUS, a healthy 48 year old female wannabe social worker with a strong do gooder streak is at the top.

Lagoa, OTOH, is a hard rock conservative with Cuban refugee parents who knows and hates communism, comes from FL, has Desantis' full support, and whose nomination would add to PDJT'S Hispanic support, particularly in FL.

It’s because you dont know how to effectively use this search engine. Pick ONE word from the lesser common words in the title. I picked Haiti. Now search that word and see what you find.

I’d take either. But you made a good point about Barrett.

I’ll go with Lagoa then. The danger with Barrett is that she could end up legislating from the bench.

What’s Lagoa’s standing on the second amendment?

Lagoa also got about 30 dem votes in her confirmation. Why??? What do they know that we don't?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britt_Grant

Born 1978 Elizabeth Britt Cagle[1] in Atlanta, Georgia, Grant attended The Westminster Schools.(Presbyterian) She received a Bachelor of Arts in English and politics from Wake Forest University in North Carolina.[2] She worked for then-Congressman Nathan Deal in Washington, D.C., and then served in various roles in the administration of President George W. Bush.[2] Grant received a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School, where she was president of the Federalist Society chapter, and was thereafter a law clerk to then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.[3][4]

Georgia girl. Younger then Amy Barret, not Catholic. Nomination went through along party lines. Don't know much about her other than that.

Would Lagoa influence unwise Latina on the bench or vise versa? That’s a consideration to consider.

Ahhh....NO. She was confirmed to the Appeals court by a vote of 80 - 15. That’s TOKEN opposition in an era where true SOLID Constitutionalists are confirmed with “NO” votes in the 40s. The DemocRATS know things about her and her connections that we do not.

The last thing we need is a Republican nominated Supreme Court Justice who evolves to the left once on the bench.

I’m not sure who is raising all these trial balloons about Lagoa, but I sure hope that campaign fails. I’d like to see either Amy Coney Barrett or Britt Grant be the nominee. They are both KNOWN SOLID Constitutionalists and each received over 40 “No” votes from DemocRATS in their Appeals Court confirmation votes.

The more I think about the situation with her kids, the more the situation with Barrett bothers me. She’s already in a high pressure job with five kids, including one with Downs Syndrome, certainly a high maintenance situation that’s likely to demand most of her time while off work. Then she goes and virtue signals by adopting two Haitian kids. That just screams wannabe social worker and do gooder, the absolutely last thing we need on SCOTUS, especially since neither Gorsuch nor Kavanaugh has turned out entirely as we’d like.

The Mail’s idea that People of Praise has something to do with “The Handmaid’s Tale” is just bizarre. Margaret Atwood herself said her book was based on 17th Century Nrw England Puritanism translated to the present day.

Looks like the politics of personal destruction has begun. Anyone who is a Christian is evil to the left.

No more Catholics. We have too many already. There are no longer any Protestants, and we need at least a couple, remembering who most of our Founders were, who wrote the Constitution on their Christian principles.

She comes with solid backing from Jeb!

So that should be enough for anyone’s solid “no”.
