SIOUX CITY, Iowa After nearly one hundred years in business, Sue Bee Honey is changing its longtime logo.
The cooperative of beekeepers from across the nation is painting over the wall of its headquarters on Lewis Boulevard where an image of a Native American girl with a feather in her hair and wings has been featured for years.
The president of the Sioux Honey Association says the change has been in the works and isn't linked to recent concerns by some companies about racial insensitivity.
"We have moved away from that logo with any of our labels and consumer promotions probably 4 or 5 years ago," said President Mark Mammen. "And what we really wanted over the last few years, our new focus or our renewed focus I should say has been on our two main brands and the fact that we are a cooperative."
It's hoped the new signage will be done by the end of the year as the cooperative gets ready to celebrates its 100th anniversary next year.
Thanks,I learn something new everyday,
Bee vomit is sure good.
HA! I hadn’t thought of Do Bee in decades.
Reminds me that one of the last Romper Room teachers, Miss Molly, attended college in Pittsburgh. I had a friend in high-school whose older brother had dated her.
We had a locker room pool going on whether Miss Molly put out. Never got an answer on that.
It's bee vomit.
Actually, that's incorrect. Bees have two "stomachs", one of which is called a honey stomach. Nectar is collected there, and winds up in open comb inside the hive. Bees inside the hive fan that until it reaches the proper moisture level and then the comb is sealed over with wax. Here is an article that explains the process a little better than I have.

/TG, in my last year of beekeeping :-(
Your welcome. I learned this due to my friend who lived downstairs from me in our apartment here in California. That poor girl every season her eyes were watery, sneezing alot and had to deal with headaches. Someone told her to get LOCAL HONEY. Do not get honey that is from Vermont or from other states because your allergy is coming from local trees. Every morning she would swallow 1 teaspoon of LOCAL honey and with time her body became immune to the tree pollen that now she is completely cured from it. You can get local honey from your health food store or farmer market.
Local Honey seemed like a good album title, and it turns out some guy I never heard of agreed and named his 2020 album that.
So it’s not racist to erase native Americans from ads.
Exactly!
Plus South Dakota as a city that mocks clumsy Indians/Native Americans/Original Settlers...named Sioux Falls!
OMG ROFL
Wow.
I knew about the "batch mixing", but didn't know about the heating over 120 degrees.
I don’t touch the stuff myself. Never did.

Does it wind up in the hive from the 'honey stomach' by some teleportation process or does it have to be regurgitated first?
.
Best way to go if you can find it within 5-10 miles of your home, they say its good for allergies. My brother keeps bees but he isn’t robbing his hive this year.
Last year he had several hives and they all died and then one one wild swarm took up an old hive. He through a super on it and opened it up last week and it was packed with honey. He decided with one hive he wasn’t going to rob it this year.
K.
I can quit any time.
Sue Bee or not Sue Bee that is the question.
That is a awesome and beautiful song. Never heard of the singer now you got me hooked. LOL
