A Broward sheriffs deputy who was fired for taking cover behind his truck and then driving away from the Parkland school massacre should be reinstated with back-pay, an arbitrator has ruled.
With Mondays ruling, Deputy Josh Stambaugh is now the second fired deputy in recent months to have an arbitrator rule they should get their job back after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony fired Josh Stambaugh on June 25, 2019, following investigations into his response during the 2018 massacre in Parkland. At the time of the termination, Tony had been on the job all of five months: He was tapped by Gov. Ron DeSantis to replace Sheriff Scott Israel, whom DeSantis removed from office in large part because of Parkland.
The arbitrators recent decision is yet another blow to those who want police accountability in the aftermath of what they call one of most egregious cases of neglect of duty by police.
A total of eight deputies from the Broward Sheriffs Office heard the jarring blasts of an AR-15 rifle and failed to enter the school and confront Nikolas Cruz as he roamed the halls shooting students and staff. Cruz killed 17 people and injured another 17.
Mondays ruling is the second time in four months that an arbitrator has said a deputy fired over the mishandling at the school should be reinstated. Just like in the previous ruling with Sgt. Brian Miller, the reinstatement is based on a technicality.

My experience suggest that arbitrators are some of the most corrupt people on earth. They go with who ever does the most to butter their bread.
” the second fired deputy in recent months to have an arbitrator rule they should get their job back . . . “
An ARBITRATOR. Dear Lord, save us all from arbitrators like this!
A Broward sheriffs deputy who was fired for taking cover behind his truck and then driving away from the Parkland school massacre
Our public servants can abandon our children to die and yet still keep their jobs. there needs to be a purging of the government payroll.
Theres more hate for the police officers than there is for the shooter.
No they do not. Americans are just done with do-nothing, worthless government employees and politicians.
That is worth repeating. The hate isn't directed at police officers in general, it is directed at the cowards who failed to act to try to save kids in the school. While unarmed teachers and students were taking actions that got them killed in order to save students two armed police officers were hiding outside.
The biggest lesson from the Parkland massacre was that the idea that the government and trained police with guns will protect you is totally false.
Maybe the arbitration process needs to be investigated.
The trial for the killer hasn’t started yet...almost2 yrs! Some are blocking it till after the elections.
More criminal government on open display.
