In the early hours of Aug. 10, caravans from across the city ransacked high-end stores in and around downtown after rumors circulated on social media that Chicago police had shot and killed a 15-year-old Black boy on the South Side. Police did shoot 20-year-old Latrell Allen, who is Black, the day before. Police allege Allen fired gunshots at them, but officers were not equipped with body-worn cameras, and no other footage of the incident has been made available. Allen is expected to recover.
Images of people walking in and out of department stores with their hands full of products transfixed a confused nation. Mayor Lori Lightfoot called the looting “an assault” on Chicago, while the Rev. Jesse Jackson said it was “humiliating” and “morally wrong.”
But young Black activists pushed back. “When protesters attack high-end retail stores that are owned by the wealthy and service the wealthy, that is not ‘our’ city and has never been meant for us,” Black Lives Matter Chicago said in a statement after the looting. “These protests can only end when the safety and wellbeing of our communities is finally prioritized.” So which is it? Once the looting stopped, the nation’s attention quickly moved on. But the problems endemic to Chicago, the problems that provided the tinder for this particular blaze, remain. And they deserve to be addressed.
Prioritizing Black communities has always been a problem for Chicago. Since arriving en masse during the Great Migration more than a century ago, Black Chicagoans have been violently relegated to the margins, exploited at every turn and expected to do more with less. Racism in Chicago even shocked Martin Luther King Jr., who said he had “never seen — even in Mississippi and Alabama — mobs as hostile and as hate-filled” as the ones he saw here.

For years, I lived on less than $700 a month here in the Chicagoland area. You know how difficult that is without Section 8?
I didn’t go stealing from others, selling drugs or committing violent crimes for profit. I also didn’t buy things that weren’t essential unless I managed to put away a little money, which ranged from $5-50 each month depending on the time of year.
This is what happens in parentless and fatherless families.
Ffook their calls for reparations!
They need to pay for all the damage they are doing, all the merchandise they have stolen and all the businesses they have burned and forced to close.

I just read that 6 people were shot ... one has already died… At a pancake house in Morgan Park. This is apparently a majority black area, and it was a drive-by shooting at people eating their Sunday lunch under the tent where the restaurant is now serving.
That’s what’s got to stop.
I’ve never lived in Chicago but have been there a few times. In the 1980s I was taking a bus from Chicago to a city in downstate Illinois at night. There were only a few passengers. The driver was black and I could overhear a conversation he had with the only passenger sitting near him, a black man. He was saying that he would retire soon and move back to Louisiana because Chicago was so racist.
Reparations is stupid. Not because its either right or wrong. Its wrong. But that is not what makes it stupid. Who gets the money has never been a slave nor have they ever met an ancestor who was a slave. And most of us are both decedents of slaves and slave holders. Slaves have been in every part of the world for over 10,000 years. Only now in the most civilized countries are they mostly gone. And I say mostly because you are fooling yourselves if you think there aren’t slaves among us. The NBA is stupid if they think their merch is not made in part by Chinese slaves. Africans are fools if they think that slaves do not exist in Africa. But none of this is a reason why reparations is stupid.
The reason that reparations is stupid, is because it will be very expensive and in five years time two things will happen. The people who got the reparations will mostly not have it anymore. A few will have most of it. And most will have spent it or have it stolen from them.
The second reason its stupid, is because no amount of reparations will put an end to the demand for reparations. When those who received the reparations have lost it or died off. Their offspring will demand more reparations. And it will be easier for them to ask the second time. And easier for the government to give it to them.
The third reason its stupid, (This is a bonus reason) is because black people will not be better off. They will still be at the low end of the poverty scale. Not assimilating, crime, and lack of family values have hurt the black community, not slavery. Money will not help them. Like money does not help black athletes or rappers or lottery winners. They all lose it sooner or later. But this time they will be really mad.
If blacks are equal in productive performance to whites but are being paid less, then business owners seeking higher profits will compete with each other to hire more blacks, thus raising their pay in the long run.
Black looters and those of other colors need to be shot dead in the streets as the rabid dogs that they are.
Guess why there are no high end stores or even big box stores in the hood?
I am all for reparations as soon as “ they “ pay us, in current value, for the cost of the civil war, the rebuilding of the South, the 40 acres and a mule, the cost of the welfare programs, our losses due to minority preference, ou losses due the cost of the incredibly higher crime rate , the cost of incarceration. Last of all having to listen to multimillionaires telling us how badly they have been treated.
Also mixed race, 50 percent white, 50 percent black, the 50 percent white pays the other 50 percent black so it nets to zero 3/4 white and 1/4 black is liable for a fifty percent payment. The only person that gets a full payment is 100 percent black and both ancestors traced back to their slavery.
Shut up and get a real job. If you are smart you will be well off in a couple of decades. If you mouth off, bitch and moan, are lazy, act stupidly you will remain poor. That is the way life is. So, stop bitching and start producing you idiotic spoiled brat. If you can’t make it here in the US you will be a failure wherever you go. NOW GET A JOB!
