Lyft will suspend service in California at 11:59 Pacific Time Thursday after a court granted a preliminary injunction last week requiring it to reclassify drivers as employees, the company said in a blog post. The injunction was stayed for ten days while the companies appealed, but is set to go into effect Friday.

I’m sure all the drivers are grateful that the state has saved them from capitalist exploitation.

As Dr. Thomas Sowell, America’s greatest living intellectual, says, “The real minimum wage is zero.”

Perhaps the metro “scooter” lobby is behind this.

Who cares if thousands lose their jobs. The Politicians feel better about themselves now that Uber and Lyft have to treat them as employees. And that’s a good thing because the Politicians feel better about themselves.

They should suspend all service.

What a crazy attempt through a law to mandate rainbows everywhere.

I never bought into Uber and Lyft as viable business models over the long term, but in ever expected this kind of charade to be their downfall. I thought they’d eventually collapse under their own weight as more and more drivers figured out how little money they were actually making.

Taxi cab medallion owners are throwing a big party Saturday.

They would but having fun with friends is permanently illegal in California now.

The law was initially enacted late last year to do just that: to put Uber and Lyft out of business. Now, it’s just another element in the America/American-hating Democrat/Left’s plan to keep Americans angry and depressed ... all designed to win an election they will not win.

Have you used them?

A couple of years ago I did a huge amount of travelling around the country for business.

I found them MUCH cheaper than taxis and certainly could get my pick of vehicles as needed.

The Politicians feel better about themselves now that Uber and Lyft have to treat them as employees.

Actually in California Lyft is now treating them as former employees, and Uber will next. Maybe they can get a gig playing guitar at a restaurant and ... oh no, this same rule cancelled that opportunity too. Well perhaps they can freelance as a photographer and .... on no, that ones cancelled too.

What an absolutely abysmal law, no tangible benefits and immense predictably bad results.

I’ve used them when traveling with others for business. I have an account myself but have never used it — mainly because I usually drive a company vehicle for work and I live in an area with limited Uber and Lyft coverage anyway.

I’m sure it’s a great service for the customers. My point was that it seems like a bad deal for most DRIVERS.

The same law put thousands (if not tens of thousands) of independent workers out of work.

Because Democrats do not understand how wealth is created the same law will ensure less money goes into the public treasury.

Maybe the California Legislature will do something stupid to destroy Facebook and Twitter now.

We can hope.

Wasn't this all designed to force the "gig economy" out, and by classifying these people as employees, make businesses responsible for payroll taxes, health care insurance, unions, OSHA, unemployment, etc.?

Basically, things the government controls?

Hey, if I rent one of those scooters, does that mean the scooter is an employee of the rental company, or I am?

Politicians and leftists are so stupid.

Someone needs to inform M.A.D.D.

I doubt anything in our lifetime has done more to keep drunk drivers off the road than the advent of Uber and Lyft.
