Pastor John MacArthur and Grace Community Church in Los Angeles, Calif., filed a lawsuit against Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), Mayor Eric Garcetti (D-Los Angeles), and other state and local officials, claiming that coronavirus orders prohibiting in-person worship services while officials encourage politically-favored protests violate the California Constitution.

On July 29, the City of Los Angeles sent a cease-and-desist letter, threatening Grace Community Church and MacArthur with a daily fine of $1,000 or arrest. The letter gave him one day to respond. On Sunday, August 2, health officials came to the church, asking to inspect the premises. The church declined to let them in without a warrant and told them to speak with the church’s counsel. At that, they left.
The lawsuit filed Thursday seeks a court injunction preventing government officials from enforcing the order. “We stand firm to continue fulfilling our biblical mandate from Christ to proclaim the Gospel and assemble together, and I earnestly hope that our stance will encourage other pastors, churches, and the general public across America and the world to also stand firm for biblical Truth. Church is essential,” MacArthur said

While government officials could have shut down the anti-racism protests just as Newsom banned anti-lockdown protests, they instead decided to encourage the anti-racism protesters to “express” their “rage” so the public could “hear” it. Officials even gave the protesters a pass on wearing masks.

I do think churches should all be open in the entire United States—and services should be held outside. A very nice option even on hot days if held early in the morning or in the evening.
The protests were outside. Everything should be OUTSIDE during a pandemic. The virus is very hard to transmit to others outdoors.
The are suing in California supreme court and the argument is different. They are essentially saying that the Governor can’t choose which mass groups it allows to mass gather for what ever purposes and which ones can’t.
I don’t think that particular argument was even fully tested at the US Supreme court.

1) Cali has a constitution? Who knew? I thought they just made it up as they went along.
2) If denied, step two would be to have the parishioners stage a “peaceful protest” to “express their rage” at the decision. Let them sing hymns as they march to City Hall where the pastor will deliver his message through a bullhorn.
I watch Jack Hibbs on YouTube from way down under in Australia. There are only a handful of Calvary Chapels in Australia and none near me sadly.

Our supreme court including gorsch has been ruling against Christians more than for it. All pastors who follow what is in red letters are already one democratic set up from prison. Ie a lbgtqrsw plant. Will be praying, because that is the power needed. Win or lose, it will be His will... which is always winning, but looks to the world like the ultimate loss.
