The community is mourning tonight after a man was shot dead at a Davenport Funeral Home.
24- year-old Nuemonei Laster is now behind bars, he’s being charged with first degree murder and felon possession of a firearm among other charges.
The victim is 26-year-old Jeremy Shorter of Davenport.
Police say Shorter was gunned down while attending his son’s visitation at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport on Saturday morning.
Jamie Delaney Shorter is Jeremy’s father and he said he will be strong for the 17 children his son left behind.
“That grandpa is going to be there for them and their other siblings when they get around their bothers and sisters just try to be strong,” said Shorter.
His children were there when the tragic shooting happened.

I'm no math major, but this looks like he had a total of 18 kids. One was at the funeral home and he left 17 behind. But I guess when you're talking those numbers at his young age, it really doesn't matter. SMH

If I understand the article, Jeremy left behind 17. He was attending his son's visitation. (One son has died and wasn't "left behind.")
I wonder how many other children have pre-deceased him? I wonder how many more he didn't know about, or were questionable on paternity? Who says life in the hood is easy?

Any pictures of dead guy dad? If I’m reading the sparse online coverage correctly, he was there for the funeral of his eight year old son.
The article doesn’t say otherwise, so I suppose that we can assume that he married young, and his wife bore a long series of multiple births. For example, if he married at 18 years of age, then he might have eight sets of twins, one for each year. Change one set of twins to triplets or add a single birth, and it’s certainly within the realm of biological possibility. But you’d think that the journalist might want to mention something about the wife and her highly unusual fecundity. He probably spends most of his days working hard to provide for his large family.
