Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions lost the Republican nomination for his old Senate seat in Alabama to former college football coach Tommy Tuberville, likely ending a long political career with a bitter defeat egged on by President Donald Trump.
Tuberville, 65, beat Sessions in Tuesdays Republican runoff as Sessions fell short in his attempted comeback for a seat he held for two decades before resigning to become Trumps attorney general in 2017.
Familiar to Alabamians from his decade as Auburn Universitys head football coach, Tuberville is now positioned for a strong challenge against Democratic U.S. Sen. Doug Jones. With Alabamas strong GOP tilt, the seat is widely viewed as Republicans best chance for a pickup as they try to maintain their thin Senate majority amid Trumps lagging popularity nationally.

GOPs open borders wing chalks up a victory.
The GOP open borders wing was supporting Sessions. The Hill ran a piece on RINOs supporting Sessions when he announced his bid.
McConnell, famous for targeting conservatives in primaries, did not oppose Sessions regaining his old seat.
You seem so sad.....or butt hurt that Trumps pick won. You lost, Trump won, Hitlary!
Holy crap. Tommy won in Tuscaloosa.
I'm sure that in the history of politics, sports coaches around our fruited plains have been elected to public office many times. Republican Tom Osborn comes to mind, head coach of the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers, elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, now retired.
Remember, Ronald Reagan was, gasp, shudder, an actor. Not that Tuberville is any Ronald Reagan, but let's not prejudge him because of his quite honorable and heavy-responsibility former occupation. I wish him well....and I predict a big win for him over the incumbent Demoncrat Senator.

Wow Ann has really become unhinged.
Yes, yes I can, with a single word: menopause.
Dont try to understand it, dont try to do anything about it. Just accept it and keep your head down.
As I lived in Alabama for four years while our son attended Auburn, and while I have an abiding love for football, (even though I coached soccer and football and preferred soccer). I believe that football takes a great deal of strength of body and seriousness of character. Tommy Tuberville will do a good job. Especially since supporting the president was his main campaign promise.
A head coach in the SEC is a very powerful recommendation for a person who will follow through. Look at the Auburn creed and think about whether this is the kind of person Trump needs at his side.
The Auburn Creed:
I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count
only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.
I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work
wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.
I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot
win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.
I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is
not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.
I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.
I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my
fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.
I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom
and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that
country by “doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly
with my God.”
And because Auburn men and women believe in these things,
I believe in Auburn and love it.

Yea, with Trump on the ticket, deep Red Ala. is going to vote for Jones as Senator!
TRUST TUBERVILLE!
Tuberville will be an excellent Senator compared to Jones and Sessions certainly didn’t deserve to be Senator again!
I like Jeff Sessions.
I love Donald Trump.
I still think there is an untold story here.
Clinton was a lawyer.
I’m fine with anyone but lawyers in office at this point.
Sessions doesn’t deserve to hold any elected office again. Ever.
Sessions didn’t deserve to be Senator again. Tuberville is pro-Trump. We will see how he votes, but Sessions needed to be put out for pasture.
Bwa ha ha ha ha ... poor Beauregard !
His thumb got run out of town.
That said, I will be voting straight republican ticket. Doug Jones must go.
I do not hate Sessions. He did some good things as senator.
That said, he had no biz being AG. He will be remembered for this major failure much more than his senate successes.
.
Sessions should go into making Hostage Videos.
If theres ever been a compromised politician, its Jeff Sessions.
