Washington Post Global Opinions editor Karen Attiah argued on Monday that the Texas Rangers as a team name "must go."
On the heels of the Washington Redskins retiring its name and mascot amid pressure from critics and corporate sponsors, an op-ed written by Attiah made the case that "to know the full history of the Texas Rangers is to understand that the team’s name is not so far off from being called the Texas Klansmen."
Growing up in Dallas, Attiah recalled going to Rangers games with her father as a child, but not realizing at the time that the Rangers "were a cruel, racist force when it came to the nonwhites who inhabited the beautiful and untamed Texas territory."

In other words, any team name that highlights perceived qualities of a particular group of people is to be eliminated. Can’t be praising Native Americans or intrepid Rangers for their brave qualities. Nope, that’s unfair, racist, something.
I’m all for changing the name of the Texas Rangers. As soon as they change the name for the NY Yankees.
Of course this sport—as an intramural—has been going on without push-back for decades at American universities.
Padres is offensive to single mothers. Angels is offensive to devil worshippers.
Braves is offensive to cowards
Yankees is offensive to southerners
Brewers is offensive to non-drinkers
Pirates is offensive to sailors
Royals is offensive to peasants
Giants is offensive to short people.
And the WP wonders why its readership is down. Report garbage and the paper is used for the garbage.

This is turning out to be just like the California Prop65 warning.
To shield yourself from lawsuits you slap a Prop65 cancer warning on a bottle of water now because of lawyers looking for the tiniest way to sue you for anything to make a buck. Now it has become so prevalent on everything it is meaningless, just like their racist charges here.
The dangerous products that it was actually intended for are lost in the haze of a million other items protecting themselves and is causing more harm than good at the end of the day.
As Texans do, that was very succinct and clear.

The Texas Rangers became official about 1835, just before TX became a Republic after winning over Mexico.
The Rangers are one of the premier law enforcement agencies in the US. They have jurisdiction anywhere in the State.
The baseball Rangers name is a tribute to those who have served as Texas Rangers in law enforcement.
