In popular culture, children are almost always much smarter than adults. I find that pretty annoying.

In the same way, commercials always show the Man to be an idiot, while his Very Competent Wife manages to save the day every time. Also annoying.

I discussed husbandly behaviour and attitudes with my protégé's new husband and noticed that he changed how he had been doing things in accordance with my advice. As a recognizably old man who ventures frequently out into industrial sites, I am some times embarrassed by the way folks go out of their way to take care of perceived needs. That was not the case when I was younger. They look out for me

There are two ways for our supposedly more wise elders to communicate wisdom to younger people: by telling or by showing.

In the "good old days" when technological progress was relatively slow our elders could teach us important life lessons by showing us how to do things the "right" way. We could learn patience, humility, persistence and more while simultaneously learning a trade.

Now with technological progress happening at leaps and bounds, our elder statesmen are out of their depth when it comes to the things that people do all day. So all they can do is tell the younger generation what to do. And as we can see, that goes in one ear and out the other.

It also doesn't help that old people today often pride themselves on never having grown up.

Have had discussions with several of my elderly female friends and relatives recently. We are all widows - having lost our husbands in their 70’s and 80’s.

The solution to avoid being alone in old age is for women to marry at the age of 30 to men who are 20 years old, or younger. That will reduce the numbers of lonely old women!!
