The city of Duluth is moving to delete the word chief from the titles of two of its administrative leadership positions in an effort to remove language that some Native Americans and others find offensive.
On Monday, the City Council is scheduled to take up an amendment to the city charter to change the name of the citys chief administrative officer to city administrator. The citys chief financial officer would be renamed finance director.

“So removing ALL references to native Americans...essentially erasing them and their influence from history...is considered a good thing?”
The next logical step would be to take away their casinos.
Will India have to change its name? Seriously, chief is derived from Norman French and predates the colonization of America by Europeans. So if chief must go, why not India?
Why not?
America is busy erasing its history and culture.
Might as well start in on injuns and send them down the memory hole too.
I saw a witty comment yesterday on the redesign of the Land o Lakes butter packages: remove the Indian but keep the land - just like history.
You can not call that person the “Head” of the department, because Monica Lewinsky and porn stars might get offended.
Chief Idiot is apparently a highly sought after title in some precincts....
Needless to say Congress must now take up the racist use of terms like Police Chief and Fire Chief. And if this is about cultural appropriation, who owns terms like Governor.
It used to be the smartest folks went into the private industry jobs because those jobs paid a lot higher salaries. The not as smartest folks went for the public jobs because while the pay wasn’t as good, their jobs were more secure ie immune from layoffs. Now that the government has gotten so big and unionized, their pay is generally higher than the same private industry jobs and they can get as high as 80% of their salary as retirement pay while non government employees are lucky to get $24k a year.
And what do we call Chief Seattle in the history books now? Registered Leader Seattle?
Too many dots, not enough feathers? /wut?>
(Denzel said it, not me, so it's okay, because he has the correct skin tone, because it isn't racist to require certain skin tones for certain words, somehow.)
The politicians are spending our money on this useless thing instead of fixing the potholes.
Seriously? So removing ALL references to native Americans...essentially erasing them and their influence from history...is considered a good thing?

It must be.
Liberals are currently erasing Aunt Jemima, Hattie McDaniel and Uncle Ben. Like they got rid of Uncle Remus and Song of the South
This could only mean one thing:
Black culture and history is offensive. Canceling it is the only option.
chief is an english word....nothing to do with the indians.
And just who are the people complaining to Duluth about this?
Chief comes from the French Chef, ... it is not a Native American word in any Native American language.
Will Chef-Boy-ar-Dee now be illegal in The city that is called Duh-Loot ??
Commander and Director of US Military.
Seems backward to me...
Stupid is as stupid does.
