Black Lives Matter activists pushing to 'defund the police' have proposed plans to replace officers with social workers, mental health advocates and homeless charities. Their chants called for widespread disbanding of U.S. police forces after Minneapolis councilors voted to abolish the city's police force in an historic move after days of protests over the killing of George Floyd during an arrest. However supporters of 'defund the police' say their demands are not necessarily about eliminating police departments or stripping agencies of all of their money. They say it is time for the country to address systemic problems in policing in America and spend more on what communities across the U.S. need, like housing and education.

This is the result of decades of public education indoctrination.
Some years ago after reading about a particularly egregious example of ideological stupidity I wrote a short humor piece where the captain of an alien space ship what expressing his disbelief over what his science officer had just informed him on scanning Earth, that he’d detected a Class 8.6 Stupid.
The captain said that was impossible given that most stupid place in the known universe —the planet of Hey, Watch Me Do This — was only known to reach a low Class 7 Stupid.
Since then I’ve fleshed the idea out a bit to explain this: that low IQ stupid or foolishness can only threaten so much around the Stupid and that it takes a particularly tortured sort of ideology, one Benton being unable to sustain a civilization, to achieve higher severities of Stupid. That only technically smart nitwits can endanger people far and wide.
The scale is like the Richter scale, where each tick up it is much worse than the previous, the scale is not linear..
So where a Class 6 Stupid is about the limit of what low IQ Stupid can threaten the survival of the Stupid and those around them, a group of people or a community, to achieve Class 7 (threatening a province to a country), Class 8 (a Civilization or even a world), Class 9 (galactic civilizations) or Class 10 (existence itself) all require something like Cultural Marxism or political correctness to achieve.
It isn’t therefore that the Left (who attain mid range Class 8 Stupid far too often) is not as stupid as stupid can be but that they simply lack the power to attain to a more threatening level of Stupid ... at this time.
