April 24, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) Controversy broke out in France at the end of March when a government decree made an anti-epileptic drug clonazepam, Rivotril in France, known as Klonopin in the U.S. available outside its specific marketing authorization, in order for it to be used on patients with respiratory distress in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic. Critics say the drug can now be used to kill off the fragile and the elderly.
One of the reasons for their fears is that there is a formal contraindication for use of the molecule in case of respiratory distress, on which it acts as an aggravating factor.
A number of health professionals, at least one member of the National Assembly, and countless Twitter accounts have accused and are still accusing the French government of promoting euthanasia through the widespread use of this drug, especially among the dependent elderly living in specialized care homes, the EHPAD network.
I used to volunteer on a crisis helpline. I remember one time half the people who called were wacked out on klonopin. Based on that, I hate the stuff.
Wow
Maybe xanax is next
A benzodiazepine sedative.
What are the French indicating it for?
And France just banned HC for Codvid-19 treatment.
Thats similar to giving morphine to someone who is imminently terminal, I guess. But certain death is the end result.
I am pretty sure Stevie Nicks once said she would kill the Dr who put her on it if she ever saw him again.
Not sure if she was high when she said it. Said it was like being pushed into Hell
In a NJ nursing home, they used morphine and Oxygen to do an unordered Hospice treatment on the mother of a woman we know for her last 3/4 days at the NH
The patient had supposedly signed a DNR form and requested to be cremated.
I’ve been taking Klonopin for 10 years. My highest dosage was 4 milligrams. Right now I’m on two. I’ve never had an issue with the medication. There is no street value and believe me I know. Not sure what this is all about
I stick a Xanax is $5 on the street. But you would literally have to take hundreds of either one to die in the absence of alcohol or some other drug
Trust me I know that to be true also
works wonders to stop my son’s cluster seizures
They would dope up mentally ill people with the stuff. Then you’ve got schizophrenia plus no anxiety. What a mess.
we tried to wean her off one time, a little each week, but she ultimately had to return to her original dose.....
If I can tell you how many families have begged us to give morphine and ativan to their elderly dying loved ones because they thought they were "restless" you would be astounded....
sometimes its done out of sincere hope to help their loved ones who they thought were in pain, but sometimes, it really is just to quicken the death...seriously...
Only drugs mentioned by Trump are dangerous.
ALL other drugs are fine.
That’s terrible. It really should be used short term for anxiety. I am taking it long term for tremors and seizures in the morning when I first wake up.
But I have taken them for anxiety too. They are very addictive and when I was taking 4 milligrams if I didn’t get to the pharmacy on time, two days later without the Klonopin I was so sick it was almost impossible to get to the pharmacy
‘A benzodiazepine sedative.’
it takes at least 2 milligrams of a benzodiazepine to have sedative effect, as it is not a narcotic; it works on GABA receptors in the brain, and prevents stimulative effects...and even then, it might not work. I have taken that much and more when travelling, as I can’t sleep at all away from home; on any regular type of basis, this is significantly too much...
however, I have never noticed any type of antisocial behavior from usage, too much or not; it can be used safely at .5 milligram or at most 1 milligram for regular usage.......
[[[[Ive been taking Klonopin for 10 years.]]]
Guess what the company who makes it considers long term use?
I take it for seizures and tremors when I wake up in the morning because of a 15-year old head injury. I know the guidelines for anxiety. About six weeks.
And I tried gabapentin and Lyrica and a whole bunch of other s*** that did nothing for good morning drummers tremors except Klonopin
IIRC, Nicks said Klonopin made her sterile.
Glad it works for you in that situation.
For anxiety panic attack patients, Medicaid is cutting all the prescriptions out now for people that have been on it long term. Older patients can lose their dexterity with it and increased risk of falls.
My sister who is 65 was just cut off of it back in the fall. She ended up in the hospital in December for two weeks with panic attacks. And that was with a phased withdrawal.
Best to you.
