The US Air Force is removing height restrictions for pilots, which will allow more women to serve

(CNN) — The US Air Force has removed its minimum height requirements for prospective pilots, doing away with a barrier that had disadvantaged women.

Previously, aspiring Air Force pilots were required to have a standing height of 5'4" to 6'5" and a sitting height of 34 to 40 inches. Applicants shorter than 5'4" or taller than 6'5" had to submit a waiver.

Though most height waivers were approved, the restrictions eliminated about 44% of the US female population ages 20 to 29, according to the Air Force.

To be fair, the Air Force was requiring drone pilots to fit the same physical requirements as fighter pilots, which is kind of silly.

Drone pilots sit in a glorified sit-down arcade cabinet at best and in front of a desk at work, they don’t pull Gs and they don’t have to see over the plane’s instrument binnacle.

My eyes must suck then, because they kept me out of the Navy. In 1982.

I think it would cease to be an issue on its own as either I’m getting shorter or the population is getting taller. Yesterday I encountered 2 girls (one about 15 the other about 22), but were easily taller than my 5’8” .

Maybe it’s always been that way but living in Asia for 9 years made me feel like I was a tall person.

In a turning fight, because of women’s shorter heart-to-brain distance, they can gain up to a .5g advantage.

So sick of this fraud. For every woman who is qualified and mentally fit and truly in love with aviation, you have 1000 bimbo imitators who only want to role model after them just for the cool factor and being around male pilots. It disgusts me.

This also applies to anyone of short stature.

It’s not an issue 98% of the time but the 2% of the time when you’re at less than optimal ergonomics, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Oddly enough, the ideal pilot probably would be a 6’0 lean woman with strong legs, wide hips, and blue/green eyes. Take a lot of G-force and be able to distinguish targets with high accuracy under multiple atmospheric conditions. But they’re not that common in the general populace.

Had I said TI to begin with, I would have received a bunch of “TI, what’s a TI?”.

Strange, in my 30+ year USAF career, I didn’t see much of this.

What I did see was more hot rod jock butter bar pilots that were trying to be the cool railroad track or gold leaf senior pilots. These young guys really had a bad case of stick envy.

So they need more pilots under 5’4”. Just what we need, more chicks flying in the Air Force.

Meanwhile, the USAF turns away hundreds of fine athletic male candidates for the Air Force academy so they can pack the place with tiny females, minority preferred.

The Air Force has many dopey refs that they are loathe to give up. We could talk about why.

I remember At the officers club on a Friday evening looking around
thinking geeze lotta fat boy candidates among these girls

Our pilot buddies and including hub expressed absolutely no problem flying with women. They knew what it took to be a pilot -the best in the world, us military- and they knew that they had no special qualities beyond what a woman could have if she wanted to fly.

Of course the barrier should be broken to anyone who wants to try. But that whole decrease in standards is an iffy thing

If this political correctness BS does not end in the military and soon, the day will come when we are on the losing end of World War III.

“Our pilot buddies and including hub expressed absolutely no problem flying with women”

Yeah sure. And what happens to a man who says the opposite, publicly? They are essentially hostages who cannot say what they think.
And they destroy unit morale and effectiveness. It has been proven over and over. And wives don’t normally enjoy seeing their man leave with a few coworker women for a year, of see his ship sail away, knowing their are a a few hundred women aboard who know pregnancy is a good way to come home when they get too bored or annoyed.
