(CNN) The US Air Force has removed its minimum height requirements for prospective pilots, doing away with a barrier that had disadvantaged women.
Previously, aspiring Air Force pilots were required to have a standing height of 5'4" to 6'5" and a sitting height of 34 to 40 inches. Applicants shorter than 5'4" or taller than 6'5" had to submit a waiver.
Though most height waivers were approved, the restrictions eliminated about 44% of the US female population ages 20 to 29, according to the Air Force.

My DI in Air Force boot camp was leaving the AF for the Navy, because his eyesight wasnt good enough for AF pilot training. The Navy had a lower bar, as it were. This was 1981.

Why don’t they just say, “Men need not apply.”
“The applicant must have a vagina.”

I recall a radio ad for one of the armed forces (Navy perhaps) a few years ago with a woman saying she was a mother, daughter, sister, etc. but also a service member and how she did “what the men do...” followed by a chorus of voices saying “and sometimes better!” which led into giggles. Such an embarrassment. Luckily, the ad didn’t play too long. Then again, many TV ads seem to mimic that stupidity.
