LANSING, Mich. – Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer gave an update Tuesday night regarding the state’s response to dam conditions and flooding in mid-Michigan.

A breached dam caused by several days of rainfall and rising water has forced the evacuation of about 10,000 people in mid-Michigan.

READ: Evacuations underway in mid-Michigan after Edenville Dam breaks Whitmer urged residents in Midland County to evacuate as soon as possible. She said both the south and west side of Midland had been evacuated.

“Please, get somewhere safe now,” Whitmer said. “This is serious.”

She asked residents to either go stay with a relative or friend. If they didn’t have a place to stay shelters were made available.

Within the last half-hour I have seen local news reports from Midland, that the Midland Dam (also earthen) is being overtopped.
This usually leads to failure through selective erosion at one point becoming a focal point for continued drainage.

The river is due to peak at 38 feet above flood stage at around 8 AM tomorrow morning (not sure where in relation to the dams); but that is 4 feet higher than the previous record flooding of (I think) 1986...

How many people are allowed in a boat.

You know, to evacuate and still be *safe*

Nope.   Everybody's got to row, six feet apart, masks on tight!

(Oh, wait a minute.   I think that part about "no motors in boats" was just recently rescinded.)

“Please, get somewhere safe now,” Whitmer said. “This is serious.”

With you as governor that would mean another state ... and applies to all Michiganders not just those in the flood zone.

"God sent a flood...to wash the Democrats out of Michigan? ;)"

Genesis 6:5-7 (NASB)

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

7 The Lord said, "I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them."

The Midland “Nuclear” Power Plant was never completed; the Consumers Power company ran out of money for the project in the 80’s, iirc. Also there was a sinking foundations issue. It was repurposed in ‘91 as a natural gas cogeneration plant to provide power for the grid and steam heat to the Dow chemical plant that is nearby.

Nuclear power can’t beat the economics of natural gas power generation since the fracking revolution began. There may be a case for 5th generation mini-nukes for towns that are remote from the gas pipelines.

Yes, that’s just it. When you act like a dictator, people don’t take you seriously. Of course, no one will admit it in public, for fear of getting locked in their homes for God only knows how long...
