President Trump may have an answer to the question, Wheres the Beef?
As the coronavirus pandemic rips through meat-processing plants, forcing several to temporarily close, there have been reports of a looming meat shortage for United States consumers. The lack of beefy inventory is also being felt by fast-food chains throughout North America.
Among those affected is Wendys, the home of the square burgers, as they have reportedly removed hamburgers as an option at 18 percent of store locations across the nation, according to a restaurant anaylst.

I hear you. I did two packs a day for 30 years. Once I started to see and feel the cumulative (non-cancerous so far, knock on wood) effects, my doctor put the fear of God in me and I switched to vaping. I figured my doc would light into me for doing that, but he approved. He said he had more patients quit tobacco with e-cigs than all the Chantix he ever prescribed.
We’ve had three slaughterhouses in Alberta shut down so far. The biggest, Cargill, is in High River, just south of Calgary. It has over 400 of almost 2,000 employees with the CCP-Coronavirus. Part of the problem is that in parts of the plant, the workers are working cheek by jowl. Also, they were not issued any masks. The third issue is, to save money, the plants hire low wage, temporary foreign workers. Many of these workers come from Africa, China and South East Asia. I am sure that things are similar in the US.
Of course, one or more of these workers came back to Canada from a visit home, or are new hires, bringing the CCP-Coronavirus with them. Working in close proximity, with no masks, the virus spread like wildfire through the plant and then through their homes.
Many of these people, especially Filipinas, live in shared accommodations in South Calgary, rather than High River. There are also many Filipinas working in Health Care, especially in nursing homes. Many of these people also live in shared accommodations, usually with fellow Filipinas/os, many in Calgary South, sharing accommodations with Cargill employees.
Over 2/3 of the almost 6,000 CCP-Coronavirus cases in Alberta are in the Calgary region. Most of those cases are in the southern part of the city. The earliest and worst ‘hot spot’ of cases in nursing homes was McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre, in the south. Of course, many nurses and staff are not from Canada.
Given the fact that we’ve (Calgary region) had the highest unemployment rate of all major Canadian cities for over two years, why, in the name of Sam Hill, have we allowed this low wage foreign worker law to remain on the books? Why hasn’t the Conservative Premier of Alberta, brought in legislation that allows AB to control immigration, like Quebec has done? Why has he not prevented such low wage temporary workers in AB when ALBERTANS have been suffering such high unemployment for so long?
Now, Kenney has a lot on his plate. Where does one start, to repair the four years of damage to our economy wrought by True-dope in d’Ottawa and former Premier Comrade Nutley?
In the US, you have a President who wants to MAGA. In Kanadahar, we have a Prime Mistake who wants to MCAFS. (Make Canada A Failed State). May God have mercy on us!
No meat shortages at my local grocery store. I think this so-called “shortage” is just another excuse for the meatpackers to raise the price of meat and/or get special government favors. So tired of industry leaders claiming the supply chain will break or the economy will collapse if someone so much as farts in their direction.
Yes. I have to give credit to my husband. He told me go out buy tp early on. I wasnt even thinking of if. Glad its one thing i don’t have to worry about.
I bet that the 18% are stores in black neighborhoods where chicken is a bigger seller. just sayin the obvious.
Instead of kicking the can down the road, Trump kicks a*s.
Good thing y’all think ahead and make provisions.
Well, your wife is right-I support her edict against chasing...
I’m more than 10 years older than you-I’ve never let anyone make me give up anything, or tell me what to take/use/ingest-I was brought up in a family of natural living nuts-they taught me to use common sense and not abuse my body with processed frankenfood or overindulgence of alcohol, tobacco, etc-and to stay away from all drugs-I eat a paleo diet and work out, so I’m healthy and intend to keep working forever-and it would be nice if we could all get back to work-I need my customers to open their businesses so I can re-start mine-fortunately fresh food is available in this rural area-there are no fast/junk food restaurants closer than 25 miles-I wonder if they have any beef...
If people in cities are eating enough fast food all of a sudden to run out the supply, then it sounds like a lot of them are making excuses not to shop for healthy food and cook-I’m too stressed, working at home, homeschooling, etc makes me too busy to cook, blah, blah, blah-so they are stuffing themselves with the fast food carbs for comfort-sounds like an episode of that 600 Pound Life show. I wonder how much the obesity rate is going to increase before people get back to work...
IIRC, Micky D has their own meat production. Meaning: they own it - they operate it.
I read that a while back, so things might have changed. But for a *global* burger operation, I kinda doubt it.
Yes that’s why they dont have a problem.
Except for the carrots.
I use both. Like the sweetness.
Well, thats the beauty of the pie. You can use whatever.
I saw a story within the last couple of weeks about the McDonalds supply chain folks getting very careful about how much they shipped to which store to keep from running out.
President Trump needs to do everything he can to improve supply chains, at every stage, for basic food and supplies.
My Lawyer,
Fritos Bendeho.
McDonald’s hasn’t served real beef in 40 years.
