Nearly 3.17 million Americans filed for unemployment last week, the Labor Department reported on Thursday, deepening the economic pain inflicted by the coronavirus pandemic on the U.S. workforce.
The new report, which covers the week ending May 2, pushes the seven-week total of losses since states adopted strict stay-at-home measures to more than 33 million, erasing the entirety of all jobs created during the past decade. Unemployment at this scale hasn’t been recorded since the Great Depression.
Although the number is still grim, it's the lowest amount of jobless claims since the week ended March 15.

We need to open the economy, we’ll wear masks and wash hands, but we need the economy or 100,000 deaths will be a drop in the bucket...yes, the cure is now approaching being worse than the illness.
Are there any numbers of people returning to work or being employed with this PPP in effect??

Every time an American looked at an item for where it was made in it came from China. Now China’s reliance making everything was being threatened by a change in leadership in America which was a major consumer of those products. When Americans hailed their leaders decision to make many of them in their country US. Their politburo worried.
Worse yet opponents to the Chinese regime in power had its citizens protesting its policies , as in Hong Kong, since that change in American leadership wave the American flag and present his name when doing so. All of which presented those in power the need to destroy that leader Donald Trump.
Would a runaway plague created by a nation which could threaten populations of an enemy cause them to react by demanding extreme restriction of movement by its population to prevent its spread ? Thus wind up fragmenting its economy and create defeat for that leader’s upcoming election.
The way this whole thing developed starting with the Italian fashion industry areas controlled by the Chinese commies hit by a runaway CCWV (Chinese Communist Wuhan Virus) breakout occurred in Wuhan the politburo closed off Wuhan but did not warn the Italian Socialist government or the Pope with whom the Chinese government had good relations with.
But certainly violated that understanding when the socialists should have been informed and allowed to deny those Chinese workers who replaced Italians in those factories taken over by the Chinese travel to and from China particularly for their New Year while this was occurring.
Where they seem to have done almost the same here with Smithfield Pork processing after the Chinese were hit with swine flu which destroyed their pork industry by their takeover of Smithfield Pork processing. When learning of the Wuhan shutdown Trump cut off China air travel with the exception of only allowing American citizens returning..But was immediately attacked by CNN and the alphabet media outlets as a racist Republican action.
Sure looks suspicious particularly when crews of US naval vessels somehow wind up being infected by it while visiting certain Asian ports before that showed up in Italy.
To stop the return of manufacturing of products back to the US that went to China. China backers here who’s family members are making millions from China through their political connections will be hit hard are also claiming that Trump’s alleged stock ownership in a quinine pills maker claim its a controlling interest in a product to be totally ineffective and when used requires a severe restriction of movement when near a possible carrier known as a shutdown because of its rapid transmission .

Last week’s 3 million unemployment insurance claims is the capacity of the unemployment system to take in new claims. Initially, it was about 6 million per week in March, but the system is now busy servicing the initial 30 million claims filed through April and is now struggling to take in 3 million a week. People who were laid off weeks ago still have been unable to get their claims accepted.
The layoffs will continue at a 3 million per week steady state for another 10 weeks as businesses continue to shut down. Initially, we saw lower level jobs like restaurants close. We have seen over the past few weeks the supply system shutting down. Now we will see sourcing shut down. After that, bigger business layoffs are coming as things like airlines have shutdown because there is little business being transacted.
Over 30 million people are unemployed, and that number will easily reach 60 million within 60 days from now. That’s about 40% employment as there were about 155 million employed when this started.
If it gets bad enough, you’ll have more reason to be afraid that someone will come to kill you and eat you as meat.

Well the stock market should rip higher on this news. Five out of the last six weeks the market goes higher on unemployment claims.
It is sickening to watch the rich get richer as federal reserve spends our children’s future with the phony market. I’m sure we will have a headline, given to them via mockingbird deep state, that will explain the exuberance in the market via paid off and compliant news media.
What’s happening here is that the PPP was used by a number of companies with the expectation that this fiasco would be over in 3-4 weeks. Now that it’s gone beyond that and there’s no end in sight, a lot of “furloughs” have become “layoffs” ... and a lot of companies that were “temporarily closed” are now OUT OF BUSINESS.
Except Government workers.
Ohio's governor just slashed $700M+ from the budget for the current fiscal year. In Pennsylvania, thousands of state employees who had been on "paid furlough" at the start of this fiasco were moved to "UNPAID furlough" in mid-April.
These governments can't operate without tax revenue, and that's starting to become obvious now.

Yesterday, I visited a manufacturing plant to check on an ongoing project.
Effective May 1, they went on a 3 day work week. Their orders for parts they turn out by the thousands effectively dried up as their customers suffered from lack of sales and new orders.
Yet there are still idiots in here assuring people that this will be a V shaped recovery. It will take many years for unemployment to approach <5%.
There are other numbers.
For instance GDP GDP can rebound at a rate greater than unemployment rate.
I initially thought opening up would cause a nice surge and perhaps jump start us back to high economic activity levels. However, we’ve seen States dragging their feet and placing absurd restrictions on opening up such that a jump start will not be possible.
I fully expect a total collapse by mid July. I just got some extremely bad news about the airlines industry today. Expect massive layoffs across the airline industry and their respective suppliers. The airlines are already at 96% down. Yes, that means they are booking only 4% of passenger travel a this time. They are now finding the federal and private equity bailouts will not sustain them and need to basically close shop.
