Marylanders already have faced penalties for violating Gov. Larry Hogan’s ban on gatherings and could face stiff consequences for flouting the stay-at-home order that went into effect Monday night.
“A lot of it is just to ensure compliance. You have to have some kind of penalty to associate it with an order,” Mr. Hogan said Tuesday on CNN’s “New Day” of the $5,000 fine or one-year jail sentence that could come with violating his order.

The stay-at-home orders direct residents to leave home only to get food or supplies, do essential work and travel, and participate in activities like hiking, going on a walk or run while still following social distancing guidelines.

Maryland law enforcement has conduct about 5,000 compliance checks and two people have been arrested for violating the ban on mass gatherings, Mr. Hogan said Tuesday.

Marylanders are getting what they deserve for voting these creeps in.
The first appearance of Camazotz directly under IT’s control is in The Suburban Community. There is one road leading to a cul-de-sac. The houses on the road are all identical with what appears to be a very strict, autonomous schedule. The kids, when Meg Murry, Charles Murry, and Calvin O’Keefe arrive, appear to be bouncing a ball at the same exact time at the same exact spot at each identical house. Charles Wallace appears to be hurt by the autonomous noise of the balls bouncing off the driveway. Soon, however, the kids stop exactly at the same time once their mothers all file out at the same time saying “Honey, It’s time for dinner!” at the same exact time. The community then folds away as Meg, Charles, and Calvin walk away from the cul-de-sac.

The governor is an R, I’m pretty sure.
Not that that means a whole lot these days.

We thought so..a few years ago. Now it’s “republican” in heavy, heavy quotes.
So let me see if I’ve got this right. They’re going to jail people violating their restriction. Meanwhile, they’re releasing prisoners from jail to protect them from the virus.....okey dokey.
How in the world can this be enforced? Either you can leave your house or you can’t.
There was a ridiculous story yesterday from California where a guy was arrested for surfing. I can’t think of a better example of “social distancing” than surfing alone, and yet the morons at the scene decided they had to break their own rules by having a lifeguard and police officer accost him.
i agree. I think all this shelter in place shit is targeted at middleschoolers and up to college age kids.
They are going to get bright ideas when they are bored.
and Maryland has it’s own troubles with gangs of teens bringing about chaos and mayhem.
After sixty-some years I am starting to warm up to the concept of ‘civil disobedience’.
A local bar and grill here is edging around the ‘new rules’.
I don’t drink but I find myself in the afternoons going there just to take part.
The restrictions and exceptions are so vague, this edict is unenforceable. Not to mention its questionable constitutionality.
They will not only jail you. But they will kill you also. They will do whatever it takes to get compliance. They mean business.
I would bet you $10 that if you went to the local bar these cops hang out in, you will find an ILLEGAL GATHERING, Take Pics and DEMAND THEY BE FINED OR ARRESTED!!!
Its not quite what Hogan makes it seem, however there are some gray areas in it.

Maryland is a small state and I-95 runs through the center of it bringing people from Boston/NYC down to DC and back. We have a serious COVID19 problem also from having the DC and Baltimore bedroom suburbs. Philly is just on our northern border. Our hospitals are just barely handling the serious respiratory cases and in the next two weeks it will be even worse. I am very thankful Hogan is our governor. The restrictions are very reasonable given the threat.
