Local news reported on that. Since covid-19 was a foreseen event , the wording in the contract exempts that. What a bunch of bull!

Read your travel insurance contract and I’m sure you will find an “Act of God” clause. An “Act of God” is a natural hazard outside human control, such as an earthquake or tsunami, for which no person can be held responsible. An Act of God may amount to an exception to liability in contracts (as under the Hague–Visby Rules) or it may be an “insured peril” in an insurance policy. Policies tend to refer to specific risks or classes of risk as “perils.” Anything that is not spelled out as a specific exclusion or risk is subject to debate, and you can guess who will win that debate.
I bet they end up doing something.
Too many class actions, if not.

I’ve heard event insurance is denying claims based on a global pandemic as well.

Unfortunately, travel insurance isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. If you read the policy for what is actually covered, it isn’t much.
