U-571

U-571 is truly an "on the edge of your seat" film about a US Navy crew trying to sail a Nazi U-Boat to England in 1942 (won't explain how that happens, see the movie). In one scene, the boat is attacked by depth charges from a German destroyer. The crew turns to the young skipper for guidance and asks what they should do to save the boat and their lives. He says he doesn't know.

Somehow they survive this attack. The wise, crusty Chief then has a fatherly chat with the skipper in a quiet moment over coffee. He explains that he let the crew down because they need to believe he knows everything, even when he doesn't. Why? Because their lives are in his hands, and they have to have absolute confidence in the ability, knowledge, and judgment of their skipper.

A submarine crew needs to have confidence in their skipper. We need to have confidence in ourselves. So often, the difference between success and failure is not intelligence or innate ability, but attitude! Many people condition themselves into believing they aren't as smart or capable as other people. They suffer from low self esteem. Even though they are every bit as intelligent as the next person, because they constantly down-rate themselves, they think they can never be successful. Eventually, their belief that they are doomed to fail becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

We must live with a strong confidence (not to say, arrogance) in our abilities and potential. This confidence will fuel our will to succeed, and once again, the belief we can do the job and succeed becomes self-fulfilling prophesy. We are all Winners!

Chaplain Mitch Schranz

Howdy, Kathy.

Have you gotten snow today? I see it’s been snowing off and on at the airport but sometimes they get it and you don’t.

Yes, I’m looking forward to brighter longer days.
Winter is too dreary and cloudy around here.

Of all the movies to cite, “U-571”? Really? it’s okay as a film, but lousy as history and insults the brave sailors of the Royal Navy who actually did what the film credits Americans for doing.

I’d rather see a picture about real American heroes like Dan Gallery who led the Task Group that captured U-505.

Hey radu!

Dang, sorry I missed you lately, got distracted by 'stuff'.

Good weekend, son and I were going shooting today but it rained hard so it'll be postponed until this Wednesday.

Robin and son's house had big time sewer back-up issues in their basement living/bathroom/laundry area and Service-Masters has been there for the last week cleaning up the big mess.

It's been a major problem and much of their basement will need to be remodeled.

It's a 1940's house that's been nicely upgraded but the sewer line will need replacing, too many tree roots.

I'll see them and the pups tomorrow.

How about you?

Lucky you....I have clocks everywhere and a few still need human care. I wish we would just get rid of DST.

Good evening, mountainlion, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you and yours.

60 degrees??? Oh my goodness...stay warm and safe.

Good evening, lightman, and a Blessed Lord’s Day to you, too.

Is your driveway ice-free?

Ice-free?

Going on two months.

The only plowable snow this calendar year was January 7-8.

Glad I saw your post to set clocks ahead! Thanks for the reminder!

Springs showing up here finally, saw a couple plumped up chickadees dancing across the awning rail and the Great Tree has begun to bud a little. Also took a look-see at the huge moon tonight, it’s suppose to be the 2nd closest to the earth this year.

Great thing about being retired is enjoying the simple things of life as long as you want to..nature..driving...and no rush for the most part.

I’ve gotten here pretty late most nights lately and you’ve already headed out by then.

Darn the luck with rain showing up to ruin your shooting range plans. I know you two enjoy getting out there for a bangin’ good time. I hope it doesn’t rain again Wed.

Poor Robin! What a mess!!!! EEEEEEWWW!!!!! Are they able to stay there while the place is cleaned or did they have to go to a motel?

Things are moving along here. I was disappointed we couldn’t head back to the museum this weekend and hope to go next weekend. There’s still quite a bit to do before we can reopen.

But I did go to a GOP meeting the other night with the congressional candidate I’m working for and that was fun.

Enjoying some nice weather this weekend but rain moves back in all next week. *sigh* At least it’ll be fairly warm. And no severe weather in the forecast. After Tues. night, we don’t need or want any more!

Yeah, the upstairs is fine, the basement is where the damage happened so son has to hang upstairs sleeping in Robin's office on a spare bed. Oh well, crap happens.

I really am looking forward to getting back out to the range this upcoming week.

It’s still nice. It was breezy today, but the dirt didn’t blow. Yay!

Have any of the farmers there been able to get into the fields yet?
